Question about Agfa Cyber-shot DSC-W150 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a SONY Cybershot DSC W150. When I turn it on the lens goes kut and comes back in several times, then I get the error message "Turn the Power Off and On Again", but doing that does not change anything. This is one of four digicams I own (also a Nikon D90, SONY DSC F717, and a Canon) and I like the W150 for some purposes because it is compact and has a viewfinder, not just a screen. I have been unable to find a similar camera. What can I do to fix the problem? Gerry Meisels gmeisels@rapidsys.com

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

What is the answer to the problem "Sony Cybershot DSC W150, screen reads turn power on and off agagin"?

is not a joke........

Use a can of compressed air and blow around the lens while it is extended. Take a relatively firm approach with this problem slap the camera into your palm two or three times.
Not lens down in this case, but using the side or rear of the camera to make contact with your palm
Make sure you have the camera cord around your wrist so as not to lose it across the room.

Do this several times and turn it on and off till the message of tuen ona nd off no longer shows(if it ever did) and the lens retracts and works correctly. The compressed air will help remove any accumulated dust that is jambing the lens.
This is a sony tech fix and not a joke, they charge you $90 to do this and this fault is not uncommon in many of these small cameras
dust and dirt get taken into the lens bay ad eventually cause it to stick. Hence the use of comptressed air with the brutal approach

Sony Cybershot DSC-W150,screen reads turn power on and off again

You may not believe this and I hope you haven't spent a lot of money fixing your problem. I read that some people had a different error message coming up on their Sony Cybershot DSC-W150's and in order to fix it, they literally banged the lens against their knee while the lens was out and it re-focused and the error message disappeared. I tried this while my camera was doing exactly what you described above AND IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 2 or 3 firm blows, my LCD screen came up and focused. I can't believe it myself, but I was just desperate enough to try it and VOILA!
Good luck!!

Hi!
It's probably stuck focus. Contact your local Sony service center, but if they ask too much, you can contact me at toms.safranovs@gmail.com and I will give you a good price.
I work in Sony service center.
