Sony Cyber-shot takes lots of blurry pictures in

first thing you can do is to try reverting cam back to factory settings.to do that initialize the camera.it's under menu>setup settings>main settings1>initialize. after initializing, set cam to auto adjustment mode (green camera icon in mode dial). what to avoid when taking pictures:
1.subject too close (use macro if needed)
2.insufficient light
3.subject movement
4.camera movement (that's caused by you)
5.incorrect camera setting
5.incorrect camera operation
btw, before you take a picture, press the shutter button halfway down first to give the cam ample time to focus.you'll see a flashing green indicator on the screen that means cam is focusing.when the indicator stops blinking cam is ready for the shot.press shutter button all the way.review your picture.if still blurry, you may try changing iso (for dark or fast moving subject, note:the greater value the noisier the picture gets), metering mode and focus settings by going to the shooting menu (press menu when your in P or program mode). hope this helps.tnx:)

Camera switches itself off unless the viewing screen is closed.the camera will still take shots using the viewing lense but will shut off immediately if the screen is opened.

This behavior comes when the camera is confused about whether the flip-screen is snapped into the camera screen out or screen in (for protection). The screen is supposed to turn off automatically when you snap it into the camera-back screen down. But if you flip and twist it in a certain way, the camera gets confused. I'll bet that if you keep your screen out, on the side of the camera, you can take pictures just as well as ever. To fix the problem, flip the screen out with the camera on, then rotate it all the different ways you can which allow you to close it with the face out. One of the orientations will leave the screen on, I believe. At least this procedure is the one I followed on my A610 to fix the same problem.

Camera takes blank pictures on closeup.

Have you set the camera to "Micro" mode? Usually a button or dial setting with what looks like a Tulip on it.

Would you please tell me what settings my camera would have had at the time of purchase ..I'm looking to set everything back to the original settings as I am not pleased with the picture results now.I hope...

To put the camera back into normal/initial mode AND reset all user settings to default (time included) , follow this sequence.
From FZ4/FZ5 Usage.pdf, page 4, Step 7:

  • How to release service mode and return to initial settings
    1. Turn the [Power SW] on.
    2. Set the mode dial into [P] mode.
    3. Turn the [Power SW] off pressing and holding [OIS] and [RIGHT] simultaneously.
After that, the 2-page menu below appears on LCD.
      fz5_reset_area.jpg
    4. You can [Select] with the [UP] and [DOWN] arrows, [Set] with the [RIGHT] arrow, or [Exit] with no changes by pressing the [MENU] key.
After selecting the area name using [UP/DOWN] , press [RIGHT]. Beware! You must choose your correct area code or you will kill your camera! Known area codes are listed below.
    5. The final confirmation screen appears with "Initial settings", your chosen area code, "OK, Cancel [LEFT], End [RIGHT]". Press press [RIGHT] and initial setting will be completed and power will go off.
The area codes (probably for language and regional settings) appear after the camera model name on the manuals so googling for FZ5xx, my guess is: PP = North America (English & French), EG=Eu English/French/German/Italian/Dutch, EGM=Eu Scand, EB=Eu UK, GN=Aus/NZ, PL=Mex/Phillipines, GD=Korean, GC=Russian/Cyrillic, SG=??, GT=??, GK=??

I have a sony cyber-shot dsc-w55 cammera, and my daughter turned the dial that changes the picture modes to many times and now it only records on every picture mode...any ideas how to reset it?

Based on the information you provided, it seems that the Camera is in Burst or Multi-Burst mode.

You may Initialize the Camera as follows:

Initializing the Camera will reset the settings of the Camera to the factory settings including date and time. It will not delete any data saved in the Camera.

Set the mode Dial on Camera. then, press the Menu button on the Camera. Then, select the SETUP menu and select the SETUP 1 option of the Camera. Then, select the Initialize option to OK.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Gregorious03,
You could try removing the batteries for at least one minute and then reinserting them, or you could try initializing the camera back to the factory settings under the setup menu. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Flash doesn't work right

first step would be to reset the camera in the setup menu - reset settings and setup parameters - turn camera off for about 15 seconds then back on and take a snapshot in simple mode (heart icon) on the mode dial. If the picture turns out problematic it could be a flash or image sensor issue - if it comes out fine then it was an issue before with the settings - possibly the ISO sensitivity.

Nothing appears on the LCD screen. What should I do?

The camera may have shut off automatically to save power. Press the POWER button to turn it back on. Also make sure the mode dial is turned completely to the desired mode. When the camera is connected to a computer, the LCD screen is disabled. When it is connected to a printer, press any button to display the print progress screen. After a moment, it disappears again.
