Question about Computers & Internet

I wanted to restore my Acer Aspire One AOD250 back to factory settings because my child downloaded a polymorphic virus that corrupted the system files. I tried to use the alt + f10 but it didn't restore the netbook just had a flashing curser and two "[ ]" things and said to hit enter to submit. but it doesn't revert.

Alright I solved the restoration dilemma. Apparently the alt f10 was not programmed into the mobo on this model. What is needed is to press (or spam) delete when the netbook is in the P.O.S.T. process and it will take you to a recovery console option. And by selecting the recovery console after pressing f8 if needed, it will give you a list of options surrounding reverting back to factory settings. Obviously in this case keeping files and documents is a no-no lol, so selecting full reinstall back to factory settings was the way to go and it took a whole 20 minutes to revert back and after updating drivers etc. it was ready for my daughter to find another virus lol. But this particular model was running Windows 7 Home edition.

I figure out the solution. Alt f10 will not work for this model. Instead pressing (spamming lol) delete during the P.O.S.T. will take you to a recovery console option and after choosing the recovery console solution, you will be given multiple options. Obviously a revert to factory settings while saving files and documents would be a no-no in this situation a complete reinstall of operating system back to factory settings is the only option in this case. After updating drivers and everything else, installing anti-virus, etc. it ready for my daughter to search for another virus lol. So thanx for the solutions. And this particular model was using Windows 7 Home edition.

Hi there,

It's a bad day when you need to do a restoration and you don't have an optical dive. Assuming you're running XP Home or Pro, here's what you'll have to do.

1. Acquire the use of an external CD/DVD drive.
2. Obtain a disc of the XP OS that your COA (Certificate of Authenticity) is linked to, or a valid recovery disc from Acer for your model.
3. Boot the netbook to the BIOS and change the boot order to the external drive.
4. Rebuild from there.

Just about any other approach will ruin some portion of your sereniy reserves. :)

Regards,

Marcus

I want too restart my aspire as in backto zero, i cannot connect to internet

Not sure what you mean by back to zero. If you want to restore it to its factory default condition, then do the following which will not only clear all user data but remove any malware or viruses. Before starting the procedure, make sure the netbook is plugged into its AC adapter to ensure the restore to factory default condition proceeds to completion without being interrupted by low battery.
1. On power-up while the Acer logo is showing...
2. Press and hold down the Alt key then press the F10 key repeatedly
3. Screen should then indicate starting the Acer eRecovery Management environment.
4. Wait until eRecovery has loaded and its menu asks How would you like to restore
5. Click on Restore system to factory default
6. Once retore is complete, the system will restart Windows for setting up its configuration

Have a virus. How do I do system restore to factory settings?

Hi

Have you any anti virus installed on your laptop ??

doing a factory restore is a bit drastic if having a virus is the only problem

there are several free anti virus programs on the net that you can download
that is if your laptop is still usable

free avg is quite a good one just be careful and read each stage of install so that you don't install some of the stuff that they wanna give you along with the free avg

If you still wanna do a system restore back to factory settings
make sure you save any files or pics that you don't want to loose on a spare hard drive or pen drive
or even burn them to disk
that is given the fact that your laptop is still working

DID you do any back up disks when you first had the laptop this would be useful if you did

Some acer's have a recovery partition
i think its some where like
start
programs
acer empering technology
acer erecovery manager
restore or recover something like that
click on it
follow the on screen instructions
windows will restart and hopefully do the recover

good luck
but i would try to remove the virus before a system recovery

Acer Aspire One error when trying to connect to internet: iexplore.exe - Ordinal Not Found The ordinal 650 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll. Sometimes the number (650) is...

1. Install another browser: For e.g. FLOCK
2. Are you able to browse?

If so then we have isolated the problem to Internet Explorer:

1. Which version of IE are you using?

Either way:
1. uninstall it completely
2. Download and reinstall the latest version of IE

And just in case please do a VIRUS SCAN:
1. DiskClean up of C drive (always do this before a virus scan)
2. Total Virus Scan of Hard Disk (make sure Virus application is updated first)

About System Restore:
Windows does not allow you do to a restore from before it happened because it did not save any restore date from prior to (perhaps system restore is not enabled so be sure to double check this); therefore:

1. You're going to have to try to fix this isolated problem manually

OR

2. RESTORE to factory settings: take all ur data off and restore to factory settings and then put ur data back thereafter.
