This is referred to as a SPUD gasket and should be readily available at a Lowes or a Home Depot.

You need a spud washer.
Or a gasket and bowl kit.
Or toilet tank gasket
Or tank to bowl gasket

1) Fixya answer from last year says Lowes/ Home Depot sells part
Home Depot sells Pegasus toilets

2) Plumbing supply dot com has selection
Company also has contact page:

4) If gasket is not torn apart, you can probably seal it again using rectoseal on both sides of washer. This is how I fix problems. Buy rectorseal from home center.

Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, expert speaks with you over phone while you work on toilet or any do-it-yourself project.

You should be able to go to your local hardware store for a replacement. Remove the one currently on there by removing the tank from the bowl.

Flapper problem

did you have the tank removed from the bowl?
if you did, there is a rather large nut that holds the flush valve to the tank, fairly simple to reinstall.
if you did not have the tank removed from the bowl, and you pulled up on the overflow tube "round white thing" then you probably broke it. you will need to replace the whole flush valve assembly.
you can get one from your local hardware store. you will also need new tank bolts, and a new gasket that goes between the tank and bowl.

Looking for a tank to bowl sponge gasket or washer for a pegasus toilet. 4 3/8 x 3 1/4 x 1 1/8. Any idea where to find one? Have called a plumbing store, home depot, pegasus (have not received a call back...

if you take the old gasket out you should be able to match up with a new one.Unless I am mistaken they are pretty much a universal gasket that fits between all tank to bowls

Strange that it went, but do you still have it? If so, bring it to your plumbing supply store and they should be able to match it up. Not sure why Home Depot can't help though. If you do not have it, bring the tank so they can try it right there. Good luck and make sure you don't overtighten when reassembling (can crack easier than you think). Can always tighten, but never loosen when it's too late.

Most of these parts are fully interchangable. If you can, take the take off the toilet and bring the gasket with you to the hardware store and buy one just like it. If not, buy the ones they have there and replace the ones you don't use.

How to attach tank to toilet without leaking

That gasket should be squashable. It's called a donut. and is meant to sit between the tank and the pan - No caulk or other sealant need be used
Place over siphon thread up to securing nut - lower tank on top of pan and secure with the nuts/wing nuts underneath
Tighten each side equally - NOT one side then the other.
