Hi I just bought this old IBM at an auction today. Computer was property of local school etc. Any way I turned on comp. IBM PAGE COMES ON AND BEEPS two times, has 0016000 KB OK. Then beeps one more time and a small page says ERROR 00161 AND 00163. AT THE bottom of this page it has an arrow pointing to the right then ok, and the box to the rightof this has the same arrow but crossed out with cancel. I only paid 20 bucks for it thought I might be able to use it with out hooking it up to the internet as I wouldn't use it for that.Any held for this Antique?

I have the exact same errors, 161 & 163. Old thinkpad 380d from grad school - I'd love to give it to the kids to play with....if I can get it up and running!

It been a while since I've worked on one of these, but I believe the 161, 163 error codes pertains to the time/date & cmos battery. This can be fixed by replacing the cmos. It's a small watch type battery that is enclosed in a yellow pouch with two wires that lead to a connector. I cant remember exactly where it's located, so I suggest removing access panels, and possibly keyboard untill you see it.
