My brand new pole saw (UT 43190) seems to have no device to keep the chain on the drive sprocket. Fresh out of the box it threw the chain and left it so kinked that I had to replace the chain, which was...

The main thing that could cause this is that the bar is not properly seated to the engine (the bar controls the position of the chain while running). When installing the chain, it should be adjusted so that the chain just pulls up to the under side of the bar, but not so tight that the chain can't be turned by hand. If this doesn't help, return the saw for warranty service. Hope this helps!

On my electric chainsaw the chain keeps coming off

Remove the bar and chain. Lay the chain out on a bench or table to check it for any sideways bending or breakage of any of the links, missing cutting teeth or drive teeth. Make sure it is being properly oiled and sharpened. Check the bar for any damaged area around the chain groove and make sure the tip sprocket (if equipped) turns freely and has no tooth damage. Check the drive sprocket for tooth damage or missing teeth. Check the drive end oil passages that run from the large holes out to the chain groove on both sides for plugging. Tighten the chain to bring it up to the bar, but not so tight that it can't be moved by hand. Hope this helps!

How does the oil pump work? What drives it?

Most saws today have pumps that are driven by the chain sprocket/clutch. Some may operate from the crankshaft on the clutch side. Some older designed saws operate from vacuum/pressure from the crankcase, ie. Homelite XL, STIHL 009, McColluch Mini-Mac.
