You can google, tias, relics and they have a service manual for White & dometic generic and it would help you. It costs $21. but maybe a better way would be to go to and buy the part for $19. with the directions, and they will be able to tell you how to do it. It must have had a problem to begin with, so it may not work if you get it back on. Good luck, but I think I would opt for the new part, if it were me.

How to thread model 661 sewing machine

From the photo, it appears that you may have the thread path correct, but it does appear that the thread is not seated in the tension disk (the round knob that the thread goes around before going up to the take-up lever). There is a spring in the tension disk that needs to be activated. FIRST, be sure when you thread the upper thread, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot. These releases the tension disk and allows the thread to seat. Also, when going around the tension knob, hold the thread above where it goes around the knob and make a complete circle around the tension disk and tug. This should seat it in the spring.

A manual would be most helpful, not only in how to use your machine but also how to maintain (clean & oil) it.

If you don't have a manual, search the internet for:

Make + Model + the word "Manual"

I have this portable machine and the tension knob has been knocked off. I can't get it back on. Is there a way to do that?

1.Brand & model of machine?
-However, fixing back a tension unit/knob shall depend on what model & to fix it back needs a hands on instruction, its better to call your local technician to get it install.

How do I adjust the tension? Alos the stitch width and length? I have lost my manual!!

what make and model? you might find a threading diagram on
or you could try for general threading diagrams. Or you might be able to buy a download manual from but you need to identify it first, try the plate beside the power inlet area for model details.

Tension on top thread is controlled by a dial or knob in front, usually above the needle and pressure foot area and should be set to a mid number so if the dial goes from zero to 10, set it on 5.

Bottom tension is controlled by the bobbin holder and tension spring usually but this varies between makes. Some machines have a top loading bobbin and some have a seperate case that is front loaded into the rotary hook.

The one thing all machines have in common is you need to get the thread fully into the tension spring or tension device for it to work properly and the bobbin needs to be rotating the right way.

Again stitch length and width is set in different ways on different machines but many have a knob or dial for each function.

It is always best to have the manual and familiarise yourself with your machine to get the most quality sewing time from it.

Hi! i was just gifted w/ a kenmore sewing machine model # 12121 i havent even plugged it in yet. I noticed that the top thread tension control knob has fallen off. it appears to have all its pieces, but i...

Open the left end door that accesses the light. On the edge of the casting by the tension control, you'll see a set screw tapped into the hole that the upper tension control fits into. That set screw locks the tension unit into the casing. If the upper tension unit is in peices, you'll need a diagram to re-assemble it correctly. If you don't assemble it correctly, it will NOT work right.

Clutch Release Problem

You will need to remove the clutch release knob and the 3 eared positioner (the clutch) under that knob. Reposition the clutch on the shaft, put the knob back on and see if you can put the screw back in the hole. If it hits something, remove the knob, remove the clutch and turn it 180 degrees. This will reposition the ears. Put the clutch back on the shaft, put the knob back on the shaft and screw the screw into the hole. Test to be sure the knob releases the hand wheel to wind the bobbin.Be sure the thread is under the thread guide when you wind the bobbin and that there is a slight tension on it.
