Question about LG 47LG50 47 in. LCD HDTV

2 Answers

I have a LG tv model# 47LG50-UG and last night while watching tv the message "this function is not available now" started flickering constantly on the screen. Even though you can still watch tv the message is constantly flickering. The tv won't shut off and I can't access any of the tv menus. I unplugged the tv overnight since it won't shut off and took the batteries out of the remote but the problem is still happening. This tv is less than 2 years old. Thanks, Shauna

"Does this occour on all inputs as well as all channels?" Not sure exactly what you mean for "inputs". Yes, it happens on all channels as well as video on demand.
How do you do a factory reset? I can't access any of the menus on the tv. Is there a reset button like there is on some electronics (now, no making fun of me please)?
I put new batteries in and looked at the buttons on the remote - they don't look like they are sticking. Can I open the remote right up to check inside and, really, would I know if it was? But since the tv still is acting up when the batteries are out of the remote, it really shouldn't be that should it?
Sigh, it is such a new tv.

There's something wrong with the control processor - it has gone malfunctioning. The only thing you can do is to open the tv and check that the connections to the logic board are firm . If the connections are good the the problem is in the processor itself and that can't be fixed. Since it's soldered on the logic board then that board will have to be replaced.
You can find it here

You must be very careful when replacing it - the ribbon connectors must be inserted fully and correctly without forcing, beware, they are fragile.

There is no such thing as a reset button on tv's - why would they make our lives easier when they - as in the tv manufacturers - can always sell us a new component.

No, this isn't a remote problem since it happens when the batteries are out of it.
You didn't told us if you tried that: remove everything that is plugged in or attached to the tv in any way and shut it down. Wait one hour, start it and try to select the tv source using the button on the case - if this also fails then you must replace the logic board.

If you have unplugged the unit overnight and the problem is still happening then the problem lays withing the main printed circuit board or the main board.
I suggest contacting LG to find their closest authorised repair agent to obtain a main board or to have them look at the product.
Other things to ensure and to try is that your remote has fully charged batteries and you havn't spilt any substance that could be causing the remote button membrane to stick. Does this occour on all inputs as well as all channels? I also suggest doing a factory reset.
I hope this offers some assistance. Good luck.

Check your warranty, LG may offer to cover parts and the customer covers the labour charge if not too far out of the warranty period.

It sounds like the remote control isn't part of the problem.

If you cannot access any of the menu controls, picture settings, channel search, etc, it's likely you wont be able to access the menu required for the fatory reset.

If you can use the menu button on the TV unit itself, not the remote control, you may be able to access the menu. I imagine it would be under the setup area of the menu.

Sorry I havn't been able to be of more assistance.
