Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Compatability I have a DI-524, several years old. I'm thinking of buying a media extender for Internet radio. I'm looking at the Squeezebox Duet. It has a wireless card to allow me to connect to my surround sound system. Will my DI-524 communicate with it? Do I need to update my router software? If I am able to communicate, what is the max distance? Is there a way to extend the distance? Please let me know at dw98@bellsouth.net or give a number to call. Thanks.

It will, as long as your squeezebox wireless card has support 802.11g wifi standard .

Hi Alibirch,
I got ur issue, to find your WEP key on the router . Open the browser,ie: internet explorer in the comp which is online.

Type in the number 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of the internet explorer.
You will be logged into the Dlink router setup page where u can check the security on the router.
thanks ,

DI-524 status problem

Did this happen after a firmware upgrade? If so, this link may help:

http://borgetech.blogspot.com/2007/09/d-link-di-524-revision-b4-status-light.html

Apparently there's a utility which will force firmware to load on the router. The steps are a bit technical, though.

If that doesn't work, the router is probably toast. Time for a new one.

Problem using di 524

Ubiman is right - in order to make a router into a repeater, you need a different firmware, which is not available for your model.

Think of it like this: you would need one antenna to receive the signal from the first router, and another antenna to relay the signal to your computer(s). Since your router only has one antenna, this is not possible.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to go and exchange the router into a repeater. That's the device you actually need.

DI-524 wireless router as wireless switch

You need to disable the DHCP server on your "slave" wireless router ( the di-524 ). In D-link routers this might be called configuring it to be an "Access point".

When this happens, connecting to the second wireless router should cause your computer to obtain an IP address which is in the range of the first router (that is to say, it will use the first router's dhcp server).

You should be able have your laptop connect with an automatic IP address and have it work.

Problem with set up

it should be easy to set up unless it's faulty, it's a case of setting it up throug a web based menu through your internet browser; but to find instructions on how to set it up, you need to look underneath the extender for the version and then click on the link below:- http://www.dlink.co.uk/?go=jN7uAYLx/oIJaWVTALoeU8H8g50JcLpcX43jIuejxxi6E4R7gbckLJIhMa5i7DQlHA==
