Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

Ice maker freezes up and fill tube over flows into tray and freezes everything up. Turned off H20 and unit had loud viberation noise for some time suspect air in line or issues with unit that controls amount of water allowed in each cycle. I belive the ice maker itself is fine.

Hi!!
If your icemaker is leaking water into your ice bucket or onto your floor, several things could be the source of the problem. Check the following items:

  • Be sure the water line fittings are secure.
  • Check the water valve for leaks.
  • See if water is leaking from the fill tube extension.
  • See if the defrost water drain is cracked or overflowing.
  • Check for water on the exterior of the refrigerator case.
I believe that your problem is the water valve, follow the instructions on how to test it. REFRIGERATOR WATER VALVEIf the water valve is bad, the icemaker can’t make ice. If you have an icemaker with an electronic head (icemakers that are in most refrigerators not made by GE) you will have holes that are marked T, V, L, H, M and N. What you want to do is make a jumper wire (just a wire about 4 in. long skinned about ¾ on each end) now insert on end of your jumper wire in the V hole and the other in the L hole. If you did this properly, the water valve should come on. If it doesn’t come on, replace valve and look to see if the fill tube (the tube that the water comes in the icemaker) is stopped up with ice. If it is you still need to replace valve because its what caused the tube to stop up.
But first you need to clean out the fill tube. You do this by pulling the tube out the back of the refrigerator (some just pull out, some twist out, some have screws) then you can get the ice out with hot water.
If the water does come on when you put the jumper wire in, pull the jumper wire out and the water should stop and if the water doesn’t stop, replace valve.

Keep me posted!!

Ice maker won't make ice

most times I see the tray and fill tube ice up its due to a leaky fill valve , this valve should close tight after filling tray , but sometimes they leak just slightly then everything freezes up in a block of ice

fill valves on most all units is located in back lower left corner , just follow the water line in the back of unit

Ice Maker WR30X0327 Freezing Over I have an

We have extremely hard water in the East Mountains of NM. Our refrigerator Ice Makers only lasted about a year before the Calcium from the underground Calcium just killed them. I solved the problem by buying, from ebay, a small restaurant ice-maker. I Always fill it with filtered water, and it has been chugging away for years. Our water tested Harder than an Hot-tub maker had ever seen, even after going through our old, Sears, water-filter. Ergo - how hard is your water? Could that be the problem. Just a thought.

Ice maker is splashing water all over back of freezer and it builds up til the fan starts to make noise if I turn it off and defrost the ice it will start up noise free til the ice builds again.

What is the model number of your unit? When the ice builds up, does the ice just build up where it is splashing or is the ice also building up behind the back wall of the freezer?

Thank you! Richard

Maytag sidebyside MSD2758DRW ice maker won't make ice

Hi,

If the ice maker no longer make ice, check the following.

Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on.

On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice.

Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

Thanks

Ice maker no longer making ice. A few weeks ago the water that was supposed to fill just the ice tray, didn't turn off, overflowed the ice tray and proceeded to fill the ice basket underneath. Since then...

Sounds like the water flowed enough to freeze the end of the fill tube shut. Best to prepare to replace the dual water control valve on the rear and near floor of refrigerator. If it was leaking and you should thaw the tube you need to turn the main supply of water off until replaced. Then thaw tube and replace the dual control valve. I will return with a part number providing your model number is correct, Thanks, Sea Breeze

The ice maker was turned off for a few weeks and when I turned it back on, the water wouldn't feed the tray. So no ice. I put some water into it manually and it made the ice dropped it into the bucket but...

Have you checked to see if the water inlet inside the freezer compartment at the ice maker is frozen? This is pretty common.

You can thaw it out with a hair dryer (carefully), then cycle the arm, wait for a little while and see if the ice tray fills.

Next thing to check would be the water line and fill valve, but try the above first.

My freezer compartment is making a loud vibrating noise. The ice maker is not working, the water freezes on the inlet ramp to the cube maker. What gives?

The vibration is usually an unballance, check the freezer fan blade for any broken pieces. The water freeze will cause the Ice maker to not work..if the fill valve for the ice maker leaks, even a small bit it will freeze up on that "inlet ramp" if so, replace the fill valve. Else, I've found a unit not used, left alone for a week or more.. that tube still freezes up...gets too cold?

Sub zero 532 ice maker

When my repair tech came out, he showed me that the fill tube sometimes retracts toward the rear of the freezer. He simply pulled it forward with a pair of needle nose pliers until it rested in the delivery reservoir. This placement allows the detector to know when the tray is full and shut off; thus not overfilling the freezing tray and/or splashing additional water onto the freezer wall and into the ice cube drawer.

No ice...different question

Are you able to see if you can push a Q-tip or something up the fill tube line to see if it's frozen up inside there. It happens on certain units. You may need to take the Ice Maker out (easy) to get to the fill tube.
