SP-PWM505 subwoofer does not stay on

I have a JVC home theater with a SP-PWM505 subwoofer. When i turn on the unit the green light on the subwoofer comes on for 2 or 3 seconds then goes off. I here the unit power on, but then it clicks off. The Video works but i have no sound from any speakers. Any idea of what the problem is?

I have had this model for about 3 years now and just recently when I am watching a DVD or listening to a CD......anywhere from 5 minutes to whenever....the green light goes off on the sub-woofer and is off but the DVD video is still going. HELP!!!!!

It seems my SP-PWM505 clicks off (along with all my other speakers) if the volume is louder 20. It's really frustrating since it doesn't sound good until around 40-45. Help?

I have the exact same problem, could it be just the power cord from the subwoofer to the receiver?

Well i had exactly the same problem, my sub turned off right away when i turned the whole thing on. Well i opened the subwoofer and was trying to find out something unusual, i took out, i believe, internal amp, well, whatever that thing is, under the lid. Which one is screwed with 6 copper screws, so you unscrew those screws, lift that lid and that whole board comes out. On that board i find something like burn around one of the parts.

you can see it in the pick, the part q2902, then i contacted JVC. At the beginning they said i need to take the whole thing to service center and so on. But later i made them to tell me what kind of part that is, so here :http://www.jvcservice.com/store/ProductDetail.asp?Part=KTC3199/GL/-T
bought soldering gun in home depot for $15, returned after i was done. And that is it, just have to replace it, but total cost only $12 ($5 part +$7 shipping)

It is possible that the power supply, and or the internal amplifier has some components that have failed. The unit will have to be serviced.

Get in touch with JVC to find out if your unit is still under warranty, and to find out who is their authorised service rep for your area.

I have only a speaker to a jvc sp-pwm505 surround sound system. But am looking to power it using something else. Is this possible?

Yes, all speakers operate on the same principle. Though depending on the resistance of the speaker, usually 4 or 8 ohms, it may place too large a load on the source driver. Try it and see.

WHERE CAN I BUY A SP PWM505 CABLE THAT GOES FROM MY RECEIVER TO THE SUBWOOFER? ITS A HOME THEATER

  • Here is a list of cables for your unit from Crutchfield's.

  • If your looking for the s pin DIN cable from the sub you can get that anywhere. The 8 pin DIN is a standard cord the same across the board. Here are a couple to choose from.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.

I have the sub woofer and two sp-thc5f front speakers. Can I hook this subwoofer directly to my JVC 56 high def big screen or do I need a dedicated amplifier that works this sub wooofer?

No, the powered subwoofer gets its signal AND power through the DIN connector so you'd have to second guess JVC engineers on which pins are power or signal; and what voltage level it supplies and then you'd have to come up with a source for the power. Managing the volume and relative levels would be a trick, too. Devastation lies down that path.

Get the prescribed JVC electronics or go with a whole new sound solution.

Subwoofer JVC TH-M606 suddenly stopped functioning

Hiya, sorry that will have to go in for repair as it sounds like it may be protecting. Could be something loose but that would be lucky. Suggest finding a electronics shop in area that can assist. Best of luck

SP-PWM505

MOst of the time it is the jack that the cable plugs into that has the problem. .
Also the jack is not broken but HAS broken the solder connection TO the jack.
If you know someone who can safely take it apart and solder, let them try.
