CPU, the motherboard and the rest of the chips in it is subject to wear and tear. This is in addition to the high temperature it is operating with. The sudden shut down is cause by a failure of one component (usually the Processor) who's burned out.

Used ups system w/new & charged batteries, run time=160 min. shuts down in 2 min.

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

Check on the processor installed inside the computer's motherboard, it might be loosen and make sure it is properly locked. Also check for the fan. Make sure the cpu is properly ventilated to avoid overheating that might cause the shutdown.

Check power supply (caps going marginal or bad, bad solder joints)- swap out w/ known good, if problem persists, it's either components on the motherboard, probably near the CPU, or solder joints; have you checked your standby/hibernate settings are proper in the BIOS and OS?

the above posted some possibilities.
most likely candidates are either failing power supply (a cheap replacement...30 bux or so) or overheating
is there lots of dust on the cpu fan? which fan is not spinning, one on the cpu or motherboard?
of if the above done work then its a bad board and you gotta buy a new one ;\

E-Machines T2792 PC Desktop is not booting

This could be a corrupted bios, look on the motherboard for the 'JBAT1' terminal and put the plastic jumper cap from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for a few seconds then back to pins 1-2. Start the pc hopefully and press F2 or DEL to enter the bios and set the time and date in standard bios settings and look for the auto detect drives and select it. press ESC and and save settings and it will re boot and go into windows if the softwaere was not corrupted when it was turned off at the button.
