My washing machine will not agiate during the wash cycle no matter what the setting is located on and will not spin out the clothes. this machine is approx. 6 years old. Any help??
NO,your transmission is probably ok!! Inside your top end of agitator are these 4 plastic parts called "dogs" they need to be replaced. To be 100% sure ,do this first,Fill upthe machine on small load and while its washing look to see if the bottom end of agitator is moving back and forth ,if it is replace the dogs.In some machines you have to change the upper part of agitator. If the agitator is not turning at the bottom than, remove the top of agitator cover so you can get a extended half inch socket in to it and pull the agitator up and check the transmission splines. If they are smooth and cannot grab the agitator than your trans, is bad.

Thanks a ton. It in fact was the Dogs. I was wondering what those pieces of plastic were inside the inner housing- at first I thought they were pieces of pineapple, but they were faded, broken off dog ears. This isn't from overloading. Just from time as the machine is close to if not over 15 years old.
Thanks again

Hi,
I've got a similar issue. I can press down on the center where the screw is and it spins during agitation, but once I release pressure, it ceases to spin. Actually it spins just a little bit- maybe about one rotation in a minute. I popped the cover of the center and it looks like the angled pieces aren't "catching" on the inner housing where there seems to be a sort of gear or ridges. I've read elsewhere about a transmission going bad...
I have same problem. My husband and I used a clothes pin to hold it down. I am looking for the part now.
Does the wash fill? Can you hear the motor running? I need further details in order to diagnose correctly.
