Question about ViewSonic VX900 19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

I recently just picked up a viewsonic vx900. I was told there was a blown fuse and the monitor will not power up. I opened the back and tested all the fuses I can find. They appear to be working fine. I unplugged different circuit boards and nothing changed. I tried different power cords and still nothing. Does anybody know what is wrong here? Any advice will help.

I just did some further investigation and it doesn't look like the power supply is putting out any power. It is receiving but not putting out. Is the monitor really worth keeping?

Are you getting the 12vdc from the power supply? Fuse on the inverter board good?

It will be hard to tget the power supply module sch because it is made by OEM not by Viewsonic.

The fuse on the inverter is good. I also found two other fuses: one in the power supply and the other next to the power cable from the power supply to the main circuit board. These fuses are also fine.

19" is probably not worth it since you will not know what else is wrong until you get the power supply running. If you have a spare 12vdc 5A regulate power supply wall wart laying around you can hook it up to where the bad 12vdc power supply is connected to to see if it will work, I did that on my test unit.

How do you open the monitor to get to the fuses?

Monitors don't have replaceable fuses. If its not powering on, then chances are something inside the monitor died(usually because of cheap chinese capacitors) and you will have to try to RMA the monitor with viewsonic, or replace it.

I replace the surface mounted fuse with axial-lead fuse, PICO fuse made by LITTLEFUSE. You can try using a 1 Ohms 1/2 watt flame proof resistor in place of the fuse, if the resistor get real hot and burnt up then it may have shorted Transistors or transformer. You can get the number of the board and go to to see if he has the inverter board in stock.

The VX900 has 2 different version of the unit. One version has an external power supply and the other has internal power supply. Since you said you changed the power cord I would guess you have the internal power supply version. The issue you have is caused by the capacitors on the power supply board have overheated and blown out. This is a common problem on many LCD monitors after a few years of use. If you open the back of your monitor and look at the supply board you should see the bulging capacitors.
