Question about Kenmore Dryers

Open Question

I have a Kenmre Model 110.62054100 that we have owned for about 6 years. Recently we needed to unplug the dryer to get it to work. We saw no error messages. Yesterday the unplug "trick" to start the machine, didn't work. (we knew this was coming) I have taken the front off and started resistance testing of parts and lines. When I got to the Thermistor it didn't move the needle at all. After reading some other comments on other models it seems that this could be the problem. What's your thoughts? Whatelse should I do? Can or should I use a jumper wire between the two wires to see if it works? Or is the fact that the ohms meter showed no movement good enough to order the part.

Probably your thermal fuse is bad. It is in the back just to left of vent outlet. Oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

SOURCE: Whirlpool duet electric wil not heat

Remove 1 wire from the element . Your 220 V comes from ...110 motor , 110 control board . Check which wire is not getting 110 V , trace it and see which it comes from . That will tell you which one is defective .

SOURCE: Can I test dryer timer to see if its any good?

Check if you have 220 at the terminal block. The power is 220 hot to hot and 110 for each leg to ground. Generaly the has two speeds (220 regular and 110 for gentle). There are two heating elements that are ciontrolled the same way. The gentle cycle uses one leg and the heat ing elements use the other. The answer is how the dryer is set. Knowing that and using elmination you will find the problem in the controlls because the heating elements work or thew are open. The motor has two windings or it works or it works or has an open. I could not find a schematic but you may see it on the back oe a piece of paper in the controlls. I have faith in you finding the problem very quickly from what you said and what I told you. Good luck. Don't forget to cycle (turn them off and on) your breakers to make sure one is not intermittent.

SOURCE: trying to replace timer 8299771. Can't find my

On the new timer , you have 2 wires comming of the timer motor . The blue wire should go to one of these terminals on the timer itself . The place where there is ONLY a timer motor wire going to , is where it should go .

Whirlpool duet sport will not turn on after error code

I am not a repair professional. I am a 78 year old man who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. So the washer or dryer ID doesn't mean much to me. I came to fixya looking for a schematic for an really old AM/FM radio and found that more than 4,700 people were asking for help with a washer repair. I recently had a washer repair of my own and at that time I found an excellent video which showed me how to take my machine apart. This video made it possible for me to do my own repair. If you are repairing a dryer or a front load washer I suggest you
go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good step by step trouble shooting and repair information on both washers and dryers as well as other appliances. If you have a direct drive top load washer and need help taking it apart this video is an early christmas present. I was so impressed with it that when I saw all these people needing help, I wanted to tell them about it. If you look at the back of your washer and the panel is solid (no small inspection plate to remove which would indicate you have a v-belt drive) chances are you have a direct drive and this video is just what you need. You can see it at www.acmehowto.com You will probably still need help in determining what the trouble is and how to fix it. After viewing the video or if you have a v-belt drive rather than a direct drive, I suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good
trouble shooting and repair nformation on most
washers and dryers. I think you'll find what you need
there. Don't worry about the timer, they hardly ever
go bad. Good luck with it. If I have helped you, please rate my advice on fixya.

What does the F40 error code mean?

Here's where you can get a manual for your Kenmore dryer: Copy and paste the following to your browser:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/modelHelp.pd?pop=flush&modelNumberId=18

I found two possibilities for an F40 code.

1) Error Code F40 is that the thermal fuse has blown.
2) The F40 error code is a communication problem between the machine control board and motor control board. A bad connection might or might not cause this.

If you post your model number, or download the owner's manual from the above link, you'll probably find out what it means, at least.

Yes. Ground and neutral connect to the same point in the breaker panel, and neutral is not needed for an electric dryer.
