Power surge is really a no no to your PC. It may not only cause a power supply to breakdown but also the rest of your motherboard, processor and other peripherals. Have it check one at a time. Good luck

Sounds like it fried despite the "surge strip". Which is not a proper filter for big surges, just a cheap movistor which might be fried also if you took it apart.

Sounds like the Power supply got surged. Have the power supply tested or take one from an older computer and use that to test the main board and other components.

Power to house went out during area power outage. Everything came back on except the computer? Tries to restart by holding power switch in, unplugged and replugged power cord - no response on monitor. ...

When the power is returned after a power outage it can cause a power surge and damage electronic equipment such as a computer. This is a reason to install a surge protection power board and connect your computer equipment to a surge protection board.
The switch mode power supply may be faulty and replacing it may get your computer operating again.
If you cannot DIY then ask a friend or take it to a computer repair shop.

WE HAD A POWER OUTAGE.NOW MY KEURIG WONT TURN ON. CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THANK YOU.

Hi,first you need to check if fuse has not been blown out.Because when POWER comes back after an outage there is a surge voltage flowing through electrical lines. It is advisable that when their is a POWER outage you have to turn off your FUSE box or SAFETY box to make sure that it won'tdamage appliances when POWER comes back>Technically when POWER SOURCE or SUPPLY has been shut off for a period of time. When POWER is back, expectantly there is an abnormal flow of current/line; current will not be as stable until a period of time..AC current behaves like a wave, values changes from time to time especially when POWER SOURCE has just been TURNED ON..So better turn off FUSE BOX when experiencing POWER OUTAGE so that when power comes back SURGE VOLTAGE wont flow within the circuit>Hope this helps..

I had a power outage & now my pc won't turn on.

It is possible that either the power supply or the motherboard is faulty.
Try swapping out the power supply (borrow one if you can) and if the PC power LED does not light up or the PC boot up, then you need a new PC.
I suggest you get a surge protection power board and connect your new computer to this surge protection power board. It will protect your computer from power surge problems.

You most likely just need a new power supply. You can pick these up for around $40 for a 450W, which is plenty for your machine. Pretty simple to replace, unscrew the 4 screws in back, around the fan on top, then unplug all the power wires, pull the old one out, and then put the new one in. There is a slim chance that other components were damaged, but this is your first step to fixing it. The power supply is the martyr of the computer. It will throw itself in front of power surges to save the rest of your computer....

Computer will not turn on. Possible power surge.

If the power supply is good then your motherboard must have gone bad during a surge.

Green light flashing on the back of the cpu

Your power supply just died. If you don't have a surge protector, the power outage probably sent too much voltage to your computer. A power supply is relatively easy to install, but you do have to have some knowledge to do so.
Try looking at this: http://www.fonerbooks.com/r_power.htm
If you don't understand it, you should be able to get someone to replace it for you for relatively cheap. Also, you can get a new power supply for about $20 on E-bay.
Also, make sure your computer-- and all major appliances-- have a surge protector on them, because this kind of stuff happens ALL THE TIME.

Power issue

Sounds like your power supply may be shot on your computer. You can get a power supply tester and check it. Not sure what to do about the printer. If you had a surge protector in between your computer and ac. Plug the computer and printer back in to the AC outlet directly and see if that helps. Hopefully only your surge protector is damaged.

Please rate, Thanks.
