Question about Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer

1 Answer

My Schwinn 430 Elliptical is not changing resistance when requested. I hear a noise as though it is trying to change, but it does not. The resistance level is shown as changed on the display. Is this something that can be fixed?

I think I am experiencing the same problem and have removed the shrouds. Are you experiencing a clicking sound while the unit is plugged in? All of this seems to deal with the servo motor. Don't be fooled by suggestions to replace the rpm sensor...this is NOT the problem. I am trying to find out what the initial setting for the servo motor and the tension cable should be. I found a site where you can order the servo motor, but it tells me that it could be months to receive this part. Sigh...

servo motor can be ordered directly from Nautilus... I just got one; took less than a week to arrive

leonavg - MUCH thanks for this info. This appears to be my problem as well and will order a servo motor also. Thanks again.

after taking shrouds off found the servo motor is a real pain to get at; one might have to remove fly wheels to make it accessible. I was hesitant and put things back together. If you find any easier way to replace let me know.

I agree. The one flywheel may indeed have to be removed to replace the servo motor and to align it properly. Gotta say that Nautilus has been incredibly helpful and confirmed this approach.

thanks tbc0; I was hesitant to make that move. I have also found Nautilus customer service to be quite helpful; very refreshing.......

My Schwinn 430 elliptical makes a clunking noise when pedalling backwards but not forward. What is causing this?

I have a iron man cdt elliptical that was clunking . I found a shaft on the end of the crank was slipping in and out, inside the bearings. I shimmed it and retightened the retaining washer which prevented it from slipping . Smooth as silk now. It was very frustrating because all seemed tight at first.

The power cord for my schwinn 430 elliptical no longer stays plugged into the machine. I have to push it really had into the bike outlet so the machine turns on, but as soon as I take my hand off of it,...

Do you think the power cord is going bad? If so here is the parts list for the Schwinn 430 if you need to order a new AC adaptor. If you think the connection inside the machine is going bad you may want to find a servicer to look at it.

Was given a Schwinn spin bike Model DX 900. Has electronic "counter" for miles, calories, etc., changed batteries and now won't work.

Sometimes taking them out looking at the Battery holder for corrosion first then check if the batteries are in the right way ( I've made that mistake ) Also the wire that leads down to the sensor and see if its adjusted correctly

Resistance level does not change anymore. What is

I fixed a problem with my Schwinn Elliptical 430 resistance level not working. When I would change the level anywhere from 1-16, I could hear the motor turning, but there was no change in resistance. If you hear the motor moving, then try this:

Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove all the screws on the left side of the large plastic cover (left side if you are standing on the machine). When all screws are removed, you can pull the plastic cover off, and move it towards the back of the machine without having to disconnect any of the metal bars. (The bottom two screws are a little tricky to get off. Hold the housing in place, don't let it sag, in order to get them out.

Look inside the unit and find the magnet, which is a rounded, brake-show like piece that is close to the flywheel, on the top half of the unit. There's a cable from the motor that goes upward and is attached to the magnet housing.

If you try to adjust the resistance level now, you should see cable move up. This is supposed to allow the magnet to move closer to the flywheel and increase resistance. In my case, the magnet was stuck and wouldn't move upwards. When I gave the magnet a little push with a screwdriver, it popped up to where it should be.

To solve this issue, you will need two wrenches. You must go to the opposite end of the magnet, towards the front of the machine, and you will see it's connected with a nut & bolt. Using a couple wrenches, hold the bolt, and loosen the nut about 1/4 turn.

This should lessen the pressure on the magnet housing and allow it to move freely and not bind. Reassemble everything. Lie the elliptical down on it's side to allow the screws to fall into the holes easier.

Once it's all back together, you should find that the resistance level works again!
