Question about Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a kenmore elite model 70203990 with a top freezer. Noticed this morning most items in the freezer are thawed and the setting is on high. I can hear it running but the air coming out is not ice cold. The refrigerator is also running on high and it appears to be warm also. Both sides of the unit near the front are very hot! Any idea what the problem could be.

SOURCE: Kenmore elite - Water dripping from freezer to refrigerator

Your refrigerator has a defrost drain blockage behind the evaporator in your your freezer compartment. Some models like yours have leak in the turns as the water leaves the freezer. I recommend that you unplug and remove the cover to the evaporator and check the defrost condensate tray below the evaporator. A wet vacuum cleaner and poring a solution with clorox in the drain will help you clean locate the leak and where the blockage may be downline.. I do have the manual on yours and can help you solve this. Some times this is a factory defect and I can help you solve the freezing drain problem. Let me know, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Replacing the Ice dispenser motor on Kenmore elite refrigerator?

I had the same problem with our Whirlpool Gold. Which by the way was just out of warranty. The guy who repaired the problem told us that since there were so many replacement dispenser motors at different supply locations that there must be a problem. I think that the root cause is the arm in the ice holder is hard to move, and it burns the dispenser ( #2252130) motor out. Whirlpool should get to the bottom of this and offer free or reduced repairs. Motor # 2252130

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite Refrigerator Trio display panel read

This is an error code for the icemaker fan motor.
If the control does not see a signal coming back from the fan motor you will get this error code.
Please see the image below from the service manual that explains the ER IF error code.

http://media.fotki.com/1_p,wkbwtkdqbqkgrkkxgtqsskgwtqkq,vi/ktfgsrbbdxktrrwffdr/1/1303472/5961857/image18067img-or.jpg

The ER IF code indicates a failure of the icing fan.

You may notice slower ice production but the other fans should be okay.

You can select the ultra ice option and see if the fan toggles on.

The fan or the control is bad.

Kenmore Model 10654613300 Freezer over freezing

In the freezer side there is a panel in the back. behind the panel are the evaporators. over the evaporators are heaters you will find one of then broken from water dropping on it the bottom one was broken on mine. put a fan to the freezer and thaw it out. get the model and serial numbers and look on ebay.com. or there is a place called http://www.repairclinic.com/
These are not hard to change but above all UNPLUG THE FRIG OR THEY MAY PUT YOU IN ONE.

Hope this helps.

Maytag refrigerator / freezer compressor fan not running and some items in freezer appear to be thawing

Check to see if the fan mount bent somehow. The fan blade just might be jammed. If not see if the fan is getting power. The unit will not cool properly if the compressor and condenser are not being cooled down by that fan.

The freezer half stopped working Sunday morning, and the items on the top were thawed more then items on the bottom. We left it a couple hours and it started working again.

Sounds like your defrost thermostat is not working.

The evaporator coil behind the cover on the back wall inside the freezer will ice up under normal conditions. Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. There is a defrost thermostat which prevents the heater from overheating the freezer by breaking the heater circuit when the temp reaches close to 32 degrees F. The entire cooling system shuts off during the defrost cycle and starts back when the timer advances through the cycle.

If this ice is not melted it will continue to build up until the air can't flow over the coil to circulate the cold air through the freezer and into the fridge. The temperature change in the fridge is usually noticed first followed by the freezer.

If the defrost thermostat is bad, it can prevent the heater from coming on OR it won't turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped to the evaporator coil at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be misshapen it is bad.
With an ohm meter it should show continuity when cold and none when warm.

I smelled an electrical burning smell and noticed that my freezer items were thawing. Is it the motor?

If your refer is over four years old and a Kenmore good odds are higher than not that the compressor has failed.

I have a 19-year-old Kenmore top freezer refrigerator (model #1069610513). The freezer seems fine, but the fridge is warm. It was fine last night but when I opened it this morning the milk felt like room...

You might be developing an ice dam in the bottom tray of thr freezer that is obstucting the flow of cold air to the refigerater part of the unit. remove frozen items so you can see the bottom tray and see if you notice an exccesive amount of frosting on said floor tray, if so you are probably experiancing a defrosting problem.Check to see if you can feel cold air coming in from the top back section of the refrigerator. There is a fan that blows across the coils in the freezer section under the floor tray, if you cant feel the air either your fan has quit or you are froze shut. You can try a temp fix by removing food items to a cooler with ice or another unit and unplugging this one and letting it thaw out, be sure and put down a towl or two on the floor the tawing ice will go to the evaporater tray underneath and overflow once its thawed plug it back in and let it cool down. Check again to see if you can feel air in the frig. if you cant your fan has quit, you need to seek local appliance tech help they should be able to get you going for a fairly inexpencive amount.
