Question about SI-TEX Nautilus NT GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Nautilus problems Hi, I have a sitex nautilus dgps unit i purchased new in 2000. it has been a couple of years since i used it for navagation and i have run into a couple of problems. the antenna is a dgps antennia, and i am receiving a good signal to the unit. i have always had a problem with the screen refreshment rate. it refreshes slowly all of the time (constantly) and makes it impossible to navagate using the unit. i see my position on the map for a second or two, and then the screen refreshes for 30 - 40 seconds (at any speed, slow or fast). i usually use it in the headup mode, but have tried switching it to the north up mode, and it made no difference. is this the way the older units work because of "weak" processing power? i also have a problem trying to follow a route. the route is reversed, and i can not get it to switch back to the original direction the route was made in. pushing the reverse route button does not change it back to the normal direction.

Hello:

I also have the Nautilus & the processor just isn't as fast as the newer units. You can adjust the track up mode to only refresh when the rotation of the map is over a cert amount, degrees, (resloution angle) if you have it set to a low value it will continually keep the route dead up & constantly refresh.

See section 4.3 Map orientation in the manual.

On the route reversal are you getting the pop up screen that alerts you that the route has been reversed?

I assume you have a manual?

I am actually contemplating selling my unit as I have a Garmin 478 from work & the screen is much easier to read in the bright sunlight. I had my Sitex on my Grady which had a bimini, but my Mako CC does not & the sunlight washes it out.

I'm thinking $375 for the whole unit with a wide area chart of MA.

Frequently switches from dgps to gps fix .Why is this?

DGPS only works in areas where there is a DGPS beacon, and they're simply not that commonplace. Unlike orbiting GPS satellites, DGPS beacons are fixed land based devices.

When there's no DGPS beacon, the unit automatically reverts to the regular and slightly less accurate GPS.

sounds like the problem is with the pilot. You may be expecting too much from nav mode you should check the antenna connector on the WAAS issue

Si Tex Neptune GPS Plotter

It souds like your GPS is bad. It is either a RV16 or a GPK10. If the GPS is about 1 inch in width then it is a RV16. If the GPS is about 3 inches in width then it is a GPK10. Both GPS units are available through SITEX. 727-576-5995 x139
