Question about Thermador UCV36A 36" Universal Cook 'n' Vent Downdraft Kitchen Hood

Open Question

I have the same problem with my new Thermador UCV30A 30" Cook 'n' Vent Downdraft as was described in the post on Aug. 11 2010. The vent is stuck in the up position. Did the replacement of the switch work? Though it is an older model I got it NIB and was pre-testing the unit before installing it and the vent went up but won't come down. When I press the switch it hums for a second and then goes quiet. I have to unplug and plug in the unit to get the switch to respond again but the same thing happens again. i have reviewed the unit and there does not seem to be any mechanical obstructions that would cause the vent to seize and trigger the fuse. I took the face cover off and found a wire leading to the switch that had come out of its socket. I plugged it back in and put the cover back on. The problem still remains. Any ideas?

SOURCE: install a Thermador UCV36 cook'n'vent

I have three 90s on my downdraft unit - 90 down from unit into slab, 90 out from slab to outside, then 90 down again. If you are talking a 6" or 8" dia vent it should not make a difference at all.

just the switch should be replacable. My vent has a screw at each end (philips flatheads - accessible only when vent is up) just under the top cap. Removing the screws and cap should give you access to the switch. Just make sure you cut your breaker off first.

SOURCE: Thermador cook top with down draft ventalation

I would think you can. Most of the cooktops are 240v and the vents are 120v, so the vent may be feeding off of one of the cooktop's hot wires. My vent is fed from it's own receptacle but is harnessed along with the cooktop's 240v.

SOURCE: Thermador CVS36R Cook'n'vent vent won't go down and fan stopped workin

You probably will find that the vent is clogged with grease. A switch device works with the vent so the fan operates only when the vent is open and does not operate when the vent is closed. Things should get back to normal after a thorough cleaning unless the fan is defective and won't operate at all.

Thermador Cook 'n' Vent Stove with stuck vent (model # SGCS304RS)

I just had a similar problem. The switch knob, and backer for the blower got jambed in the housing. After pulling it all apart I called the parts center at Thermador and ordered a new switch. If you can hear the motor the raises the unit run, then that could be your problem.
