The RAM rarely can be defective, you should hear beeping sound when you start your PC in case that the module has problems. Try to start your PC without the memory mounted and see if you hear the repeating beeping sound. If no error beep occurs then maybe you have problems with the mainboard.

If this is the solution for your problem, please rate my post, otherwise give us more details.

Actually my computer was working on 4gb ram (2.99 usable)...but now its showing only memory 2gb.....wat should i do..?

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
If it is a laptop, then remove the battery.
Open the case, to reveal the two sticks of RAM.
One of the sticks is either "defective" or it is not fully-and-correctly "seated" in its slot.
Remove one stick, leaving the other one still installed.
Connect the AC power, and start it up.
If you have removed the "good" stick, the computer will complain that there is _NO_ RAM that is working.
If you have removed the "bad" stick, it will start-up with 2GB of RAM.
Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Put the "bad" RAM back into the computer, and try again.
If it starts-up and shows 2GB, you can be certain that the one stick is "bad". Replace it.

Driver memory stick

Try putting the ram in another computer and see if you have the same problem. If the issue goes away one of the sticks of ram might not have been fully seated. If you get the same result you have a bad stick of ram. Go to the manufactures website and download ram checker and install it (free software). This will help diagnose your problem. If you get an error code write it down so you can give it to the manufacturer which indicates which error problem you have... If it turns out that you have a bad stick of ram contact the manufacturer and they may send you another stick of ram. Some manufacturers have a lifetime warranty on their ram. Hope this helps.

When i turn the computer on it beeps 4 times and repeats this, nothing comes up on the screen.

one of the periferals is defective (RAM, PCI card, video, CD or Hard Drive, etc...) remove everything that you can leaving just the board, CPU, one stick of RAM and power supply, than boot if all goes well, shutt down than re-plugg one thing at a time, than re-boot, start with the RAM modules (one stick of RAM at a time as well) to see which device is causing the failliure... if it is not booting on the first try, switch RAM modules by starting with only one RAM stick at a time...

How to fix my laptop??...caps lock and scroll lock is flashing....

Ok, so power the laptop down, & remove the batter. Now remove the screws holding down the cover on the bottom of your laptop. Under the panel will be your computers RAM, either one or two sticks, since you weren't detailed about your model. There are little levers on each side holding the RAM in place, carefully push both prongs away from the RAM, this will let the RAM pop up slightly, touch something metal and don't shuffle your feet around on the carpet. After you've grounded your self to discharge any static, now remove either one or both of the RAM sticks. If you only have one RAM stick it's probably bad but you can confirm by removing it and seeing if the same thing results in turning on your laptop. If you have two RAM sticks place them so you can tell them apart, insert them one at a time, and alternate the port which they connect into. For example if you have two take the one that was in the top and put it in the bottom spot and try to boot. If it works try turn it off and now install the other RAM stick. If it still boots you had a bad connection, if it didn't boot no matter how you arranged the RAM your looking at either two bad RAM sticks, or a bad motherboard.

My acer d255-1625 will not post after adding 2 gb ram upgrade. Thought it was bad stick but tried another manufacturer and getting same result. Upgraded BIOS with no change.

The Acer Apsire One series only supports up to 1.5gb of RAM. This includes the onboard 512mb, plus a single 1 gig stick. I have this same model, and had the same problem.

I have HP a320n PC. Max ram is 2gb I currently have 448mb of ram when I add two 1gb sticks the PC starts to reboot itself repeatedly, and starts to say there a problem and do I want to start in safe mode...

If you have 448MB of RAM, you started with 512MB of RAM, and the computer has "stolen" 64MB of RAM to use to interface with the video-card.

What happens when you remove the 512MB stick(s), and install just ONE 1Gbyte stick?
Does your computer work correctly, and show as 960Mbyte of available RAM?

It's possible that one of the RAM sticks is "bad". Test them in your computer, one at a time, rathre than both at the same time, to "isolate" the good/bad sticks.

During booting i hear a long beep of my laptop keyboard for about two minutes then to stops

I would check the RAM first. If you have two sticks installed , pull one out and try to start. If you get the same result, switch the sticks of RAM around and try again. Maybe just one stick is bad. You really need to try to install a known good stick of RAM.

My pc doesn't boot anymore.

This code usually refers to a Video card or RAM issue. Try reseating both the video card and then RAM to see if it fixes the problem. If not then try removing the video card and rebooting. If the system starts without the beeps then you'll know the video card is bad and you can replace it. If it still beeps then try removing the RAM one stick at a time, rebooting after each removal. When it boots you'll have the bad RAM stick isolated and can replace. Hope this helps.

Samsung monitor goes black for a few seconds and then turns on again - and repeats this pattern

Take out your ram and reseat it, if still the same result just replace one stick and try to start, see if one of the sticks is bad.
