It is not the memory causing the issue. You either have a clogged fan and heat sink or a bad fan. This will solve most heat issues with the laptop.http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/faq.html

Install this software and put the fan on manual high. That should help a lot if the fan is still working.

My dell d600 fan never runs feels hot on bottom how to turn it on?

The fan could have a seized bearing. Check the fan to see if it spins freely. If it spins freely, check the power connector from the fan to the motherboard to make sure it is properly connected.
Replace the fan if faulty and while you are at it, clean and remove any dust from the heat-sink.

Periodic Boot-up Problems with Dell Latitude D600

Well I had the same problem with my Dell Latitude D600. I tried many batteries, fully charged, partially charged and even i tried scenarios with AC Power On or Off. Nothing really seemed to work as my laptop was both hot and cold. I noticed this problem was coming specially when laptop is cold.
The Solution is found is, when i have this problem, i press the power button and then move the rotate the laptop, so that its screen touches the desk and keybord is upright verticle, i know it sounds ODD, but it really made my life so easier as now this problem doesnt haunt me.  and it will boot on first, second or third go.

Normal Laptop Condition with keybord down and LCD Open
                     /                     /      / lcd
__________/
You need to move the laptop in one of the following if it is having boot problem again
       \               /          \            /            \         /  keybrd  \      /  lcd                \   /                 \/
or put the lcd down flat while keeping the keyboard in the same position as above.

I m sorry the above illustrations are pretty rough but hope u understand what i mean :)

Heat vents

The vents on the side are sufficient - but the fan should run when you turn it on. If the fan is broken or worn out, your computer will overheat and crash - fans can be replaced but a technician or service shop would need to do it, it's not easy to get laptops open. So, to fully answer your question, there is not supposed to be a heat vent on the bottom. But the fan should probably be running when you turn it on. If the seller of the laptop didn't mention a broken fan you might want to contact them and ask if they know.

Check that the cpu fan is working. In easynote usually you uncrew a panel at the back of the laptop. If it is not that may be a common system problem, in that case reinstall your system.
