Question about GE Monogram Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I installed a GE Monogram built in 48" refrigerator approximately two years ago. The unit is working. The problem I have is that about 2-3 months ago the temperature in the freezer started swinging plus and minus 3 degrees from my setting of -2 degrees. The refrigerator seems to hold its setting. This happens even when the doors have not been opened. I never noticed that before. I had a GE Technician look at it and he said it was normal. He had no answer about why I never noticed it earlier. Is there anything tha tI can do?

No this is not normal. Maybe is not a big problem since the temperature in th freezer is finaly withing acceptable limits which mean that your products will not be spoiled and freezer will consume extreme energy by going below 0.
However the temperature should be stable between -2 to 0 not -3 not 1.
The problem is either the thermostat probe or the electronic thermostat or the elctronic control board.
The first two is not so expensive so in this case you can replace them. The electronic board it is cost about $200 so in this case maybe you should leave it if and only the problem get worst.
Finaly I sugest to keep an eye on it and only if the proble get worst then you should proceed to find which is the acual problem from three above and fix it. Also you should know that 0 degrees is the normal setting for the freezer.

You need to find out where the leak is located to repair otherwise if you continue to charge with Freon the fridge is going to get moisture inside the sealed system. A lot of times the evaporator will leak causing moisture to be pulled in. The leak could also be in the condenser coils or the yoder loop. Can you charge it again and use soapy water to help you to locate the leak? Are you equipped to repair the refrigerator? My built in side by side is making a noise about every 30 minutes or so that sounds like a woodpecker pecking on it...about 10 times. It is driving me crazy! Have any idea what this might be?

I have the exact problem with my built0in side-by-side Monogram. 1 yr 3 months old, and it sounds m=like a woodpecker for 3 seconds approximately 1ce/hr. Does not appear related to ice maker. You can create the sound by changing the temp setting on the drawer at the bottom. As you command a lower temp, the sound happens a couple seconds. Actually sounds like a solenoid opening and closing at 60Hz frequency, as though a control board were feeding AC to a DC coil. Any ideas? Fortunately, this fridge has a 2 year warranty, but this should not happen to a $6K dual condenser fridge in just over a year!!
