Question about HP Photosmart C4480 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I have had the printer for over a year and never used it because the usb had been misplaced. I finally got a new usb, but now have no idea where the install disc for my macbook is because I have moved twice since then. Is there another way for me to get the printer working with my computer?

Printer stays continually offline, even after I right click on the printer and look for the option to make the printer online.

Which printer are you using? What data cable are you using?

For most printers, try a new data cable and using a different port (for USB devices). If you are using a print server or USB hub, try a direct connection. Check if other devices can be accessed from the port.

Make sure the printer is on and has no error codes on the unit. If there are error codes, fix the problem using the owner's manual or troubleshooting guide at the manufacturer's support site.

To make sure it isn't a driver issue, you may want to remove the printer (for Windows 7 this is in the Devices and Printers Control Panel) and then reinstall it as if it were a new printer. (See the manufacturer's site for software if you have misplaced the CD.) For USB printers, remove the data cable before rebooting the computer and then reinstalling the software drivers (assuming the driver isn't part of the OS).

I hope this helps.

My printer will not install with the software.. it cant detact the printer for the final step

Assuming your are installing this on a windows system and I'm not sure about your level of expertise (sorry I don't know MAC's);
  1. It's a good idea to install the software on your PC before you connect the Printer to the PC (unless the directions say otherwise). Usually, either during the install or when you are done installing the software; the application will tell you to "connect the printer".
  2. IF you connected the Printer before loading your software then go to "control panel" printers and look for your new printer and uninstall it. Then REBOOT your computer. If you don't see your printer in control panel then you may need to go to "Devices" under "My Computer" and look for the printer there then delete it from there.
  3. Now install the software drivers (that came with your printer) on your computer.
  4. When the installation completes, search for new drivers if it prompts you to do so (assuming you are connected to the internet. Sometimes it's a good idea to get the most current drivers from the internet and load these rather than using the software from the box. Be sure to select the correct software/drivers for your operating system. You can run the install right from the internet.
  5. When you are connecting the printer to your PC (assuming you are using a USB cable); Plug the PC directly into a USB port on your PC and do not use a USB hub.

I have a canon ip6700d (using windows 7 64bit). I have had this printer about 3 years. Used it fine 2 days ago and today it will not print but gives USB error 43 and gives messages saying " usb device not...

There can be some situations when the printer installer will not work on the computer. Sometimes there is a fault in the CD or sometimes there is a fault within the program. In any case, the printer can still be installed on the computer using the Add Printer Wizard feature of Windows. The wizard lets you choose the port where the printer will be connected as well as other settings of the printer. or get more help from here . Hope this helps you.

If your printer is a USB printer then do the following:
First of all please remove the USB Cable from your PC completely.
Restart your PC without connecting USB cable back to your PC.
Now connect the USB Cable into the USB Jack from both ends and start your PC.
After doing above steps please reboot your PC finally and printer
Let me know the result, so I can further investigate the problem.

G85 USB failure

You will have to replace the main board in order to get a new USB connection. Have you tried using the parallel connection. Looks like a regular parallel connection but smaller. It takes a special cable that was originally sold with the printer. We have those cables for $15 if needed. The USB cable may be out but the parallel connection may work fine.

Hi Teresa,

Double check your model number, I think the numbers you are quoting refer to a range of printers.

Check out Lexmarks website to find the correct driver.

Hope this helps,

Misfeeds and partial printing with CX8400 on Vista Machine

Make sure you are connected to a USB 2.0 port on your computer. The printer does not do so well on a USB 1.1 port.

If you have a desktop, you can add a USB 2.0 adapter card. If you have a notebook you can use a USB 2.0 converter card (PCMCIA or PC Card or CardBus(32bit) or whatever).
