Question about Kenmore 74212 Gas Dryer

1 Answer

My dryer s\tarts and has heat but the heat turns off and does not come on again. The heat (glow) element turns orange after that but the blue flame never comes on after the initial start. Is there a sensor that could be bad that is not opening the gas selinoid?

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

The dryer has no heat when turned on.

Check your coils & igniter. Access door usually located in lower right front of dryer. Remove (pry up & out from bottom of panel, if no screws, exposing burner assembly. Set dryer for heated dry and start, you should see the igniter glow bright orange (give it at least a minute) followed by a CLICK sound,(again, a few seconds) this is the coils opening the gas valve, followed by a blue flame for heat. If no glow, replace igniter. If igniter glows bright and no click, replace the coils.

Gas dryer heat is intermediate

does the igniter glow white or orange? if it is orange you need to replace it. has to be white hot to ignite. if the igniter is white it could be the coils not opening the gas valve all the time - an intermittent problem.

Kenmore Gas Dryer Model 75731 Dryer Won't Heat

The orange glow is the ignitor. If the ignitor is glowing but the gas does not light then the flame sensor may have to be replaced. If the gas ignites but does not stay on either the flame sensor or the coils are at fault.

My Electric Dryer's Heating Element Glows orange while in use

Hi. this is quite normal when you dry heavy items. the dryer has sensors inside the compartment that will sense cotton and wool garment. if needed, the thermal regulator will adjust the element to the appropriate range. If there is a problem, the electronic thermal fuse will blow. this is the safety feature that will trigger itself if a fire or over heating is sensed. Also, if your selector knob is set to a cotton or high heat mode, the element will normally glow intensively during this cycle.

Please rate and god bless.

I have a siemans wtxd5522uc 27" ultrasense gas dryer that the ignitor won't fire. What is the supply voltage to the ignitor? Is it usually the ignitor that goes or some sensor? Every thing else...

hi sir it ignites at the voltage bet 230v-250v.there will be a sensor problem where it cannot try to ignite try to clean ignitor area.. In a gas dryer, heat is provided by a gas heater that is controlled by an air shutter. The gas heater is generally the source of no-heat or drying problems. You can often correct such problems by adjusting the air shutter on the gas burner, which is located along the bottom of the dryer.
To adjust the shutter, take out the screws and remove the panel that covers the gas flame. Turn on the dryer so the flame is burning. If the flame has a deep blue color and you hear air whistling around the burner, the air/gas mixture is receiving too much air. If the flame has a yellow tip, the mixture is not receiving enough air. Turn the thumbscrew or loosen the two screws slightly to increase or decrease the flow of air to the burner. Keep turning until the flame is a light blue color, without any yellow, and the whistling stops.

Gas dryers use an electric ignition device rather than a pilot light to light the gas heater: An element becomes hot and glows like the filament in a lightbulb. Electric ignition systems are always sealed; you can't adjust or repair them. If an electric ignition device fails, call a professional service person for replacement.
