PAL Capability I have just bought a new Toshiba REGZA 37RV530U LCD HDTV along with a Sony Bravia HDX500/i home theater system. Can either the dvd player on the HDX500 or the Toshiba tv display PAL dvds/signals? If not, is there anything I can do to allow either of them to do this? Cheers.

I have just bought a new Toshiba REGZA 37RV530U LCD HDTV along with a Sony Bravia HDX500/i home theater system. Can either the dvd player on the HDX500/i or the Toshiba HDTV display PAL dvds/signals? If not, is there anything I can do to enable either of them to do this?

I also have my original LG PAL dvd/vcr from Australia, which I was using until this problem occurred. Is there any way I can get it to convert the PAL signal into NTSC in order for it to successfully display on the Toshiba HDTV?

It would appear that the problem is simply one of finding a way to either convert the Toshiba HDTV from NTSC to display a PAL signal, or the PAL signal into NTSC to show on the NTSC tv. Given the models I've mentioned, is this possible? And if so, how? I mistakenly assumed that the newest of HDTVs would automatically be able to display both formats. As I may have to return this item for exchange very shortly, your timely assistance is greatly appreciated

    Cheers,

    Jeff

All I have is an original PAL Xbox hooked up to my PAL LG dvd/vcr (both from Oz), then the dvd/vcr hooked up to my Sony BRAVIA HDX500/i HTS. This connects directly to the Toshiba REGZA 37RV530U 1080p HDTV. Before this setup (minus the Toshiba) was hooked up to an older Samsung tv with no problems. Do you need any other info to assist you?

g'day mattozan, I've purchased the Mayflash PAL to NTSC converter from Sewell Direct as you suggested, so we'll see how that goes...

In the meantime, is there any way I can get the dvd player on my Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX500i Home Theater System to play PAL discs and make it region-free?

    Cheers

This converter will get you from NTSC to PAL. But it sounds like you really need the opposite.

This converter will go both ways (NTSC <-> PAL, plus more).

    It's not cheap, though. USD$180

The conversion can't be done just with adapter cables alone. It is a true signal conversion, requiring a processor box.

You're right in assuming that newer TVs can process this signal conversion themselves. But I guess your Toshiba is one that does not...

Sewell Direct has an PAL -> NTSC box for much less. I'd get that and see if the output quality is satisfactory. If not, you might consider the other professional-grade converter.

Sony bravia 40vl130 Serial No.8002109 made in Mexico during Aug 2007 bought from usa not working in dubai UAE what could be the reason ??? Can You please HELP ???

Hello
Bravia 40Vl series in not system compactable. The bravia you owns have only NTSC and ATSC system and is only meant for exclusive use in US. It can't be worked with PAL system in Dubai. So this set is worthless for you as you are in Dubai, India or any other part of the world where only PAL system is the standard for both transmission and recording. OK.

Convert ntsc to pal for sony bravia tv

While a modern PAL TV can display NTSC sources (namely DVD players and PAL VHS players that support pseudo-NTSC), an NTSC TV can not display a PAL source, unless it's an expensive multi-standard TV. Sorry pal, bad choice.

Can't receive proper dvd/vcr signal

Your Toshiba TV uses the American NTSC standard.

Your DVD/VCR uses the Australian PAL B/G standard.

Unfortunately the two are not compatible as they stand, but there may be an option in the DVD/VDR menu to force the output to NTSC. This varies from make to make.

Another option would be to modify your main DVD player to make it multi-region so it will play ALL of your DVDs. Some models can be modified with a simple handset code, some can be modified with a software update, and others need an internal modification.

Post your make and model, and I can advise you on modification.

Sony Bravia KDL 52 XBR-5

If you purchased the TV in the US, it is probably strictly for use with the NTSC system and will not work with any PAL components. You can get some multi fornat devices (DVD, VCR) that will output NTSC, PAL and Secam. That is probably your best option.
