The 42DPC85 is erroneously refferred to as a television when it is in fact a monitor; ie. it has no built-in tuner. You will have to connect a VCR to the monitor and use the VCR's tuner for cable or antenna viewing. You may notice that the monitor does not have any 'channel' buttons.
The remote that comes with the monitor has 'channel' buttons but they are for external devices.

How do i connect my cable box to my tv

Connect the coaxial "Cable In" cable to the "Cable In" port on the back of your TV cable receiver box. Make sure your receiver box is not plugged in yet. 2 Take the TV audio/visual cable, and connect the red, blue and green ends to the corresponding color "Cable Out" ports on the back of your cable receiver.3 Take the other ends and plug them in to the red, blue and green ports under "V1" on the back of your TV.4 Take the audio cord with the red and white ends, and connect them to the corresponding color ports of "Audio Out" on the back of your cable receiver; then, connect the other ends to the corresponding color "Audio In" ports on the back of your TV.5 Turn on the power of your TV cable receiver box first. Allow it to run through the boot sequence. When you see the time appear on the front of the cable box, you may turn on the television and check your signal.

The main tv Tuner signal board have problems and all those HDMI insert ports are shorted dead, those HDMI insert ports are put on by wave soldering machine and fused by iron core solders joints to the main tv Tuner board itself. These HDMI insert ports are not replaceable by hand soldering equipments or can buy those HDMI insert ports individually anyway.Tv still work wright?Yes? Why don't u just skips the used of those HDMI insert ports all together and tries used those RCA component cable connections like AV1 and AV2 on the tv.Or u must have some mechanicals skills and like take things aparts and putting back together again?Yes?Tries websites like, to buy a whole refurbish tv main Tuner signal board for the replacement to able to used those HDMI insert ports again.I have the same problems with my Samasung 46" all my HDMI insert ports are dead too,but the tv still functions. That what i did used RCA cable components connections for my cable box and blu Ray player.

I am trying to connect my Laptop to my tv Screen,so as to enable the family to watch alltogether. can you please advise. Thankyou

This is a very simple procedure to do. All you need to do is follow the instructions that i give to you below.
    1. Get a signal cable(the cable that connects your monitor to your system unit).
    2. After obtaining this cable get one end of the cable connected to the RGB PC port at the back of your TV(the port that has similar plugs to the port in which this cable fits into at the back of your CPU).
    3. Connect the other end of this cable to the same type of port on your computer. It is usually by one of the sides of the Laptop.
    4. Your computer may flicker or go blank at first but don't worry if the display doesn't come back once this cable is connected at both ends.
    5. Change your Tv output to the RGB PC output frequency.
At this point, all the display and activities should be reflected on the TV screen and you can put any movies or programs for your family to watch together.
If you are having any problems setting this up, let me know and please let me know if you were able to set it up properly.
    Hope it helped you?

    SONY Bravia KDL-40XBR4 HDMI problem

Ok i am assuming that when you switched the cables you only did so on the devices and not on the back of the tv. Am I correct on that? If so then you did not actually test the ports on the or the cables. It is cheaper to replace the cable than it is the port on the tv. I recommend taking each cable one at a time, ( remove the other cable completely during the test) hook up one cable to dvd player, then connect it to port 1 put tv on that channel and see if it works, now hook up that cable to port 2 while leaving it connected to the dvd player and change the channel and see if it works. now remove that cable completely and try the same steps with the other cable and compare the results. If it is a bad cable one cable will work on both ports and one will not work at all. If it is a bad port then both cables wil work on one port and not the other port. There is no need to use both boxes for this test due to the fact that in your original post you switched the boxes and a different one worked when you did.
