Hi, the problem you are having with your microwave is a common one. Not heating is a problem that can be caused by three things. I will list the most common solution first, the magnetron that actually does the heating is gone bad. It is possible for you to also have a bad high voltage diode that has opened up, solution two, or solution three is the high voltage capacitor is not working properly as well. From my experience with microwaves I am positive that it is your magnetron that is bad. If you are not do it yourselfer you'll need to take it to a repair shop to replace. However, if you know how to use a screwdriver and can unplug a couple of wires with spade terminals on them, then you can take it off yourself, find another one and replace it the same way you took it off. The magnetron sits behind the control panel of your microwave but on top. It has cooling fins on it and has 2 terminals maybe three depending and make and model that plug into it. It has 4 screws that are easy to get to that actually holds it in place. If you do not have a good local source like an electronic parts supply place then you can find the right magnetron at online. Be sure you always unplug the microwave before touching or trying to take the he cover off and then when you take the magnetron off also....

Kitchen Aid microwave KHMS105EWH-0: I started to heat a cup of coffee, it momentarily interrupted power to the kitchen, fluorescent lamps went out, then slowly came back on. More below.

Because of the loud snap you are hearing, my guess is you have something shorting out in the high voltage section of the microwave. I'm surprised it is not blowing the internal microwave fuse yet. Average repair cost depending of what part it going bad is approximately $150 to $200. Considering the age of your micro my suggestion is put the money towards a new one.

Amana MVH210W keeps blowing fuse

The magnetron is more than likely the problem, or the inverter board if oven is 7 years old or less. If you have a digital meter you can do a rough test on the magnetron, unplug microwave, set meter to ohms, disconnect one wire from magnetron and put the test leads across too points, if reading is .2ohms or less it is good, but if the test shows infinity or open the magnetron is bad, keep in mind it may have a short making the reading misleading.

No power...

If the stove was on without the hood fan's being on, it could have put too much heat in the "innards" of the microwave. It may have opened the thermostat or thermal fuse located inside - either on the chassis of the microwave or or the magnetron. It will look something like the one in the attached photo. For helpful exploded view diagrams and to order any needed parts, you can visit the GE parts Web site or the Sears parts Web site at http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ or http://www3.sears.com/ (the 3 is correct) In my profile, you can find a link to my site, where you can find critical safety & disassembly tips. Post back if you need more help.
