Question about Mitsubishi VS-50705 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

SERVICE CODE I need to find the service code for my tv. The picture is slightly to big both vertical and horizontal. This is usualy a simple adjustment. However, I can find nothing in the owners manual. There apears to be no adjustment on the TV itself, and I suspect adjustment is done via the remote. Needles to say, I need the service code. Please HELP!! pic too large for 40" screen- cant see scores need to adjust vertical height

Picture cutting off

It sounds that you have to enter its service mode to adjust both vertical and horizontal position of the picture. To Philips brand TVs, entering service mode [SAM] mode, and adjusting data values there must be done cautiously. Really it is a skilled work indeed. It will be best to contact any service technician. The picture is producing a double image which appears to be in red only with a slight bending of the images on some parts of the screen.

Your Convergence ICs have failed. It is very common on rear projections. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless.

One horizontal line center on the screen

The vertical deflection circuit has failed, or has been shut down by a service code entered from the remote control*. Usually you can get out of service mode by turning the set off and on again.

*Normally, you have to enter a special combination of front panel and remote control codes to get into service mode, then enter another code on the remote control to get the horizontal line. The horizontal line is used for adjusting the screen controls for each color so you get proper color in the dark areas of the picture.

Toshiba TV CX2789K Horizontal Line

Failure in the vertical deflection amplifier section. This is usualy from failed components, and sometimes cold solder connections. Most of the time, I found bad capacitors, and sometimes the output IC or transistors (depending on the model type) that have failed.

Take the set to a service center for an estimate. You may find it more feasible to buy a new set depending on the parts that failed and the time involved to do the work.

Rolling screen!

The sync is automatic and controled by the uPC. It is strongly not recomended to mess with the factory service set-up. There are no so-called user adjustable controls for the horizontal and vertical frequency on this model.

The fault is usualy failed components in the sync seperator and sync amp sections.

An experienced TV tech can troubleshoot this and replace the necessary parts for you.

Zenith Z27X22D Service Menu Codes needed

significant vertical overscan. It is such that it's impossible to read crawls and such at the bottom of the screen. I think this problem is a tv problem. it is due to vertical section. please change electrolytic capacitor in vertical output section. it will be ok. it is common problem can be fixed at home & very simple.

If still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience you should take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. Some of the solutions described below can be dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to service. Even when plugged out, TV's can store very high voltages. This should not be an expensive job at most repair shops. Could be something as simple as cracked, cold, defective solder joints around and near the vertical output chip, could be a faulty chip and other components in and around the vertical deflection circuitry, or a faulty vertical drive signal from the jungle circuits, or worst case a faulty deflection yoke. Take your television to a shop right away for a proper and safe repair. Do not keep the television looking at the red horizontal line.... you can easily damage or burn the CRT phosphors. Good luck
