I was silly and i tried messing around with the settings menu on my dvd player as a dvd i tried to play wasnt playing. I am not totally sure what i did but now nothing shows up on the screen at all. I remember the dvd asking me if my tv could handle the change and i said yes, that was my mistake. is there any way of resetting the player?

We have finally managed to get avatar to play!!!!! We had the same problem. Frustrating I know - but after returning the DVD back to the shop three times, trying updating previously, then waiting for another update from Samsung from Sept (they have not provided a further update) - we are feeling jubilant!
We copied the firmware to a CD disc once again. It did not initally look as if it was loading but if you wait you are asked if you if you want to upgrade eventually. Once you affirm - it takes a good five to ten minutes to process the firmware/ upgrade. It tells you when it has completed. We discovered by chance that you need to then switch off the player and switch back on again for the update to become functional.
Initally we still could not get AVATAR to load as far as the menu screen. We tried newer Blue Ray DVDs purchased December that previously would not play - and now do! To get AVATAR to play we switched off & on the blue ray player with the disc still loaded a couple of times and each time we got a little further towards the functioning menu screen.
A lot of messing around, so be sure you have the time available to persevere!

This sounds like a setting on your DVD player in its menu settings. You could try a couple of things, first being to unplug it for a couple of moments (5-10 minutes) or going through your menu on the DVD player with the remote or the front of the player. I assume that all of your DVDs have this problem.
Hi, i also have a conia plasma (and sony 510 amp). Which video connection are you using? DVI-VGA? DVI-component? Note that the tv probably defaults to using YPBR rather than VGA so you may need to play with settings in the menu ...
Dear brother at first u insert a original copy righted disk and check .And there is an option for swithing in menu for PAL and NTSC.And also please check ur TV is supported NTSC3.15 colour system,If not check ur player in a multi system TV.

Dale, Have you tryed yet to clean the lens surface on the dvd player yet ?? A small build-up of film or dust can make a cd/dvd player's tracking ability to go downhill quit fast. The lens Im talking about it on the Laser Pick-Up assy. Us an approved cleaning disc to do this or take off the top cover and take a small q-tip with just damped with alcohol. Very carefully clean the surface in a circular motion and let dry then clean again with a dry q-tip to get off anything lefyt on the lens. Now for the disc. Those small scratchs can be gotten rid of with a disc resurfacer. The disc resurfacer will work on very minor and shallow scratchs. you can only get rid of them if you dont see any dark inside the scratch or you can barley feel the scratch with your thumb nail. If the cleaning dosent assist you then the unit will neeed a tracing/focus alighnment and thi is something you cannot do unles you have an alighnment/service manual and the proper equipment-ie scope & alighnment disc's. Good Luck
