MOD RED4440VQ1 Dryer heats, but drum does not spin.

Popped the top (lost a screw in the lint thing!) and it looks like the belt is fine. There is a large one - an inch wide or so - in the back, and a thinner one running in the middle of the drum. Both are intact and appear to be fine. BTW, this is a new dryer - used once - but bought second hand 2 months ago.

Any further advice appreciated, including how to retrieve screw....thanks!

I should clarify...it was used once by original owner. I bought it and have used it for 2 months - about 3x per week. Sooooo, it is still "new".

    Hi there,

Heating element is working on dryer, but the drum is not spinning. I popped the lid and the belt is fine, per a previous guru input, but want to know if it could be something other than the motor. This is a fairly new unit, was only used by original owner once (was a house freebie), and I bought in July. I use it about 3x a week.

Hi there, no, the belt is intact.

  • Anonymous Sep 14, 2010

There is nothing wrong with the belt, and I have opened the back and all wires are in place. Please read all posts, as I have already done some troubleshooting.

    Thanks!
    Tina

Hi,
If you are heating but not spinning then you have a problem either with the motor that spins the drum or the belt...often if the motor is running you can still hear the faint hum of the motor running and hear it coasting to a stop often you turn it back off...that will let you know that the belt has broken or come off....sometimes a guide pulley will break and jump the belt and so just because the belt is off it may not be the only problem check everything else out also.....

here are a couple of tips I wrote about this also....

Push drum to see if it moves easy if not then the rollers are bad

but the belt could be stretched and still need replacing

    even tho its still on.

Pop the liad and check to see if the belt has slipped off or broken.Remove the lint filter and then tak out the two screws then use a flat tip screw driver and push in on them to lift the lid.
if the belt has slipped off or broken then you will need to remove the front panel to reattach or replace the belt.there are two screws that hold the front panel in place located on the inside of the frot panel

Cdv242 dryer drum will not spin. dryer and heat work.

id suggest the belt may be broken or loose, have you tried with no clothes in it? a lighter load might relieve stress on a loose belt and allow the drum to spin. since heat and fan works, i would not suspect motor failure, as safety mechanisms should not allow heat while the drum isnt spinning.
could be a broken mount or bracket between motor and drum as well

Roper dryer red4440vq1 not drying after changing internal fuse, internal bias, high limit thermostat and thermal cut off and cleaning vent, element heats up to temp and cycles

If heater is heating and not drying clothes, you have a blockage in ventilation system somewhere either internally in dryer or going out from dryer to outside. Take vent off back of dryer and turn on. Is air flow strong and hot?

I have a Whirlpool dryer Mod#WED8300SWO; SER#MUO103-107, I have been experiencing a problem when I turn on the dryer, no matter what setting it is on after the 1st minute or 2 it begins to spin extremely...

Have you actually seen the drum actually speed up or does it just sound like it speeds up?
Dryers use an idler pulley to keep a constant tension on the drum belt so the drum rotates at a constant speed, so it is highly unlikely to go faster than it's supposed to.

Worn out drum rollers, loose blower wheel may make it sound like it' running faster.

Dryer heats but drum does not turn when the start button is pushe

You need to check the drum belt. With dryer empty, reach in and give it a spin. If the belt is good, it will stop in 1/2 turn or less when released. If the belt broke, it will spin almost a full turn.

Have you checked the belt? That's generally the problem when a dryer stops spinning.

can you spin the drum by hand? if not, pull front panel off by removing three screws on bottom, remove lint screen, then remove three screws holding inlet housing ( the big brown thing in front) check to make sure not clogged with sock, panty hose ,bra underwire ,etc.
