Remove the three screws on the top of the vacuum base. You may need to recline the handle to the lowest setting as if you are going to vacuum under a bed. Turn the height selector to the side (either right or left), lift off cover of base. Your belt area should be to the right side. Hook new belt on the motor shaft at the back...it kind of looks like a nail sticking out. Pull the brush roll out, clean off any thread, hair, etc. Place grooved end of brushroll in loop of belt, replace brush roll, stretching belt into place. Rotate by hand a few times to make sure belt stays straight.

Greetings from GoVacuum,

There are two things that you should check on this vacuum after running it without a bag inside. The first thing you should check is the filter that is underneath of the vacuum bag. This filter is underneath of a bracket, and the bracket can be removed by pulling straight up on the bracket. The bracket and filter are directly below the vacuum bag inside the vacuum bag housing. If the machine was run without a bag (or the bag fell off) then this filter is most likely going to be extremely clogged. You can simly remove the filter, and run it under hot water until clean. Make sure the filter is 100% completely dry before putting it back in the vacuum and using it. Running the vacuum with a wet filter will destroy your motor.

Now in terms of the belts. Where as the belts don't directly control the suction of the vacuum cleaner, they certainly facilitate the pick up of dirt and debris on the floor. Many people assume that since the vacuum is not picking up from the floor, then the vacuum doesn't have suction. You can test this by pulling out the attachment hose and feeling for suction, is there suction at the end of the hose? If yes, then the reason the vacuum is not picking up on the floor is because of the belts. If you don't have suction at the end of the hose, then you have a clog, some where or a dirty filter.

The belts actually are what spin the brush, and the brush basically sweeps the carpet, and throws the dirt and debris into the suction port, and when the dirt and debris are near the suction port, the suction then takes over and takes it to the bag.

There are two belts on this model, it's best to replace both of these belts at the same time. If you replace just one, then the other belt will wear out quicker. It's always best to replace these two belts in conjunction.

The two belts that are used on this vacuum are:

Hoover Windtunnel V-Belt Part 38528034

Hoover Windtunnel Flat Belt, Hoover Part 38528035

Once you have the belts, and you're ready to replace them, here's a great video that we shot here at Govacuum.com that shows you exactly how to replace these belts, as well as some basic maintenance on your roller brush;

Hi -- I have a Kirby Sentria and it is great except that I am getting no suction at all through the big silver power head. Suction through all the other attachments works well. I haev tried it with the...

You can take off the power head and look in that whole where the belt is and see if there is a paper towel or something in there clogging it up.

Also tug on the belt and make sure it is tight - because if it is loose it is broken and you need a new belt.

While you have the head off, put on your hose attachment and use it to **** out any debris stufk in there.

No suction & brush will not turn when power

Check your belt. It is broken or stretched out. Replace the belt first. Should be your answer

The machine will not suction - it will spray and spin the brushes but will not suction - the power is going to the machine, but it will not suction.

Disconnect the suction hose. While running, check the suction port if it works, by putting a piece of paper. If the paper is taken in, then it is oK. Now, check the suction Hose for breaks or opening before the suction head. Breaks or opening breaks the suction power at the suction head. Loose connection between the suction pipe and the suction port also must be check as this will also cause the same
problem. You may need to replace the suction hose

Lack of suction on the main part of the vacuum

There are two easy things to consider if you have a lack of suction on the vacuum:

1. Replace the bag and check the hose leading to the bag to see that it's not blocked.

2. Replace the belt.

You may think that the belt doesn't have anything to do with suction, but it does. When belts are worn and stretched, they don't work efficiently.

How to for Belt replacement and solution to suction loss

You say it lost its suction, then you also say this is plenty of suction power, seems you cant figure out the prob. Try cleaning the fan on the suction blower. The blades can get chocked with dust which will give you a reduced suction.
