Question about Hampton Bay 24002 Ceiling Fan

Hampton bay ceiling fan

When replacing the 3 speed switch, what color wires go to 1, 2, 3, and L on the switch. On this fan I have yellow and purple wires coming out of a little black box. The 3rd is an orange wire that comes from the forward/reverse switch. The 4th is a black wire coming out of a plug/receptacle that connects to rest of the fan circuitry. The problem is: I was replacing the 3 speed switch and it brought apart in my hand and I don't know where to terminate the wires. need to know which wires go where on 3 speed switch. The white comes out of the reverse switch, the black out of the harness and the yellow and blue wire out of the black box. They had all come out of the switch as it fell apart. scorpion@sutv.com

I have the same problem with my fan. When I went to replace the fan switch it fell apart in my hands. I don't know where the wires go now. I have tried every possible combo I can think of. I have the same color wires as you do, yellow, purple, orange. Maybe some one can help. Please email me at foxyelmo@email.com

dont buy these fans and we all need to check if there is a recall on them, why should we have to fix this ourselves or hire an electrician.

It's the westinghouse switch. Many results on search. I just wasted 2 hours playing switching wires all combos. Others suggested the switch from Lowe's. Harbor breeze #0033905 . Plug wires back in as you listed Black L, Grey 1, Brown 2, Purple 3. Works perfectly for $3.98 plus tax.

Others said you can call Hampton Bay and get the replacement also.

Wiring diagram for a 3 way ceiling pull switch.

These fans are manufactured by a number of overseas companies and sold exclusively by Home Depot. They do not have a standard color code for the fan switch. What you can do is turn off the power, keep the white neutral connected. Then using the black power wire fro the ceiling, take one of the switch wires and connect to that black, turn the power on and observe the speed .. low mark it 1, medium mark it 2, high mark it 3. Repeat untill you have identified all the speed wires. Then connect these wires to the 1,2,3, terminations of your new switch
