Yes, what you describe is possible, although it may require some custom set up. You would need a receiver and circuit set up at the gate to receive the signal from the GP300 and activate gate control mechanism. You would also need some sort of signalling device (such as a DTMF touch tone pad).
There is an optional DTMF pad for the GP300 or you could use an external DTMF tone generator and just hold it up to the microphone of the GP300 to send the tones. Additionally there are several out of the box receiver solutions that include activation circuits that could be tied into your gate control. The Ritron TeleSwitch immediately comes to mind (Ritron has a whole line of gate control products) but other manufacturers such as Motorola have solutions available as well.
I'd recommend contacting your local professional two-way radio shop and explaining to them what it is you are trying to accomplish. I'm sure they could give you some guidance and pricing.
