Are you sure that the filter is pushed all the way to the bottom of the container? Just take it out and put it back and make sure the filter retainer is gently turned all the way.

Dyson DC 25 power switch replacement

It a fairly straightforward procedure. Remove the accessory hose to expose 4 torx screws from behind that hold the front switch cover in place. After removing the screws, gently pull the front switch cover and carefully pry two plastic tabs apart using a small screwdriver that "snap" cover in place. The switches will be exposed. The electrical connectors each have a tiny lock button at the base of the terminal that you need to push to remove. Otherwise they won't pull off easily. Assembly is reverse with one note: You'll have to hold the plastic cover and push buttons together so they don't fall out as you place the the cover back on. Once you get it on, the plastic tabs will hold until you install the torx screws. Be sure to retest the push buttons to make sure there was no binding in reassembly.

If I may add one more thing- I believe all DC25's carry a 5 year warranty and switch failure is covered. I replace these routinely. If you call Dyson, they will likely refer you to an authorized repair center for replacement at no charge.

I need to replace the electric cord and need to know how to take out the old one a replace it.

First remove the handle from the machine and remove the plastic trim around the switch button. There are two screws holding the trim piece in place. Next insert a small flat screwdriver into the small slot on the trim piece are pry up to pop it off. There is a cover over the bottom of the cord where it plugs into the side of the motor unit. Remove the screw holding it in place and push it gently forward to disengage the tab along the back edge. The cord plug then pulls straight out to remove the cord. Push the new cord into the motor unit, and re-install the cord cover. Hook the bottom of the cord cover into the machine first, then insert the grommet on the cord into the opening at the upper rear of the cover. Push against the rear edge of the cover with a flat screwdriver to snap it back in place and replace the screw. Lastly, the switch trim plate can be replaced.

Upright self propelled Windtunnel model: The self propulsion does not work and I can see why. I need to know how to get the top cover off the machine to get to the broken part that engages and disengages...

First remove the bottom plate, brushroll, and belts. Three screws hold the top cover in place. One screw is in the center just behind the brush. The others are midway up on the sides - you may need a flashlight to see them. Once the screws are out, there are two latches on either side that secure the top cover, and these must be pushed outward with a flat screwdriver. Push one out to loosen the cover, and insert a screwdiver between the cover and the lower body to secure it while you push out the other side. You may want to remove the lower hose as well to make more room while replacing the drive actuating arm.

While operating machine, brush does not rotate. Button is pushed in, all hair cleaned off brush. Is there a reset button? Where is it located?

Likely the wires are broken under the left hand cover not a difficult fix. Unplug the machine and remove the 4 torx screws and an access panel at the side of the ball. replace wires with new or re-connect with a splice. ensure wires are long enough to allow movement and you don't trap the wires when you replace the covers. about a 20 min job with the right tools

Self propelled function

There are few things that may have gone wrong:
First thing to check is if when pushing pedal it moves gears located on the rear axle (you will have to take cover shell off to see that)
If that works fine then primary belt may be broken (see it here). Then just replace entire set to make sure that belt type matches gears
Last - the most expensive problem - the main transmission belt within transmission is broken (then I would recommend replacing entire transmission)

Power cord retrieval

Depending on which model you have, take the bag door or lid off by pushing it back and it will unhook and come off, there are 4 screws that hold the cover on over the where the cord rewind button is, take that cover off and you can get to the cord reel.
