What OS is it running. If this was my laptop i would be using ERD comander or microsoft diagnostics and recovery toolset (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/enterprise/products/mdop/dart.aspx). This will allow you to boot into a recovery tool set and from there you can restore your laptop and see if this gets it booting up again. if it dose then have a look at thing you where doing before you had this problem. hope this will help you out

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Here's a better response.

The laptop can't run an OS, it doesn't get past the BIOS. Try jiggling the hard drive around, or at least checking to see if it's loose. The laptop might be unable to 'see' the hard drive (hence the checking for a good connection) and doesn't have anything to boot from, leaving you stuck with a laptop at BIOS.

The hard drive, if you'll look at the bottom of the laptop, is under the big cover near the volume control. There are two more screws holding the drive in, but you shouldn't need to touch these. If you take them out, try not to lose them, because Toshiba doesn't offer replacements (although a third party might).
    Hope this helps.

I restarted my Toshiba satellite a305 and now it won't boot up or go into safe mode. It comes to the start up screen that says press f2 for setup f12 for boot manager. It will let me go into setup and boot...

If it won't let you go to safe mode, then there's something that the BIOS(setup) or Boot Manager needs before starting the operating system(Windows Vista). You should have a Toshiba Recovery Disk which will fix this . The disk will not touch any of your current files and data,so don't worry about that.

M115 won't boot

Thanks - that makes more sense. Sounds like a hardware problem. Most likely suspect, the hard drive. You'll want to get some diagnostic tests to run. I'd recommend just booting the CD to a command prompt and running some tests. You can search for some bootable cd's for this purpose that will make your like a bit easier www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd.

Blinking white dash during boot.

Something has messed with your MBR, master boot record, which is a small sector at the beginning of your first hard drive which tells the bios which partition to boot. You'll have to use your xp or vista's installation disc to repair the system.( Choose; repair this installation of windows when prompted )
While you are in the bios check under the boot section the order of your boot devices. If you have more than 1 HD check that the one containing your OS is first.

Master reset of my toshiba satelite

Put in the restore CD and hold down C while booting, this will allow you to boot from thh CD and select how you want to restore the computer. Alternatively, you can attempt to boot in safe mode with command prompt, and type "chkdsk /r" without the quotes, and press enter., post your results.
