Question about Sewing Machines

Pfaff Ruffler My mom has a Pfaff ruffler that is missing the directions for use. I have been looking for directions for using the ruffler online - to no avail. Any suggestions about where I can find written directions. I found an online video but she is 83 and not computer savvy! Written directions would be perfect! Michelle

I am trying to gather I have a gathering foot on but it isn't gathering please could you tell me what tension it should be on

Tension should not have a large affect on gathering other than one thread will lay on top of the fabric instead of both threads meeting in the middle of the fabric. There are several different kinds of gathering/ruffler feet, so it is difficult to address appropriately.

I know how to attach my ruffler foot but my needle keeps hitting the plate .what do I need to adjust to keep the needle from hitting the foot

You may need to move the needle position left or right. Try a different stitch length. If the ruffler foot is installed correctly and needle is in the correct position this should not happen. It is hitting left/right/forward or back of the ruffler needle space?

PFAFF sewing machine: How do I attach the gathering foot on the PFAFF 1473?

usually a gathering foot or ruffler fits on like one would fit an old style foot. Unscrew the thumb screw that holds the snap on foot holder.... and place your foot making sure the needle holder thumb screw holds the lever on the other side. And tighten the thumb screw to hold on the foot.

Good luck.

Just bought a singer 8280 and as a first time sewer find it great. Can I get a ruffler foot for it and are they a universal fit or do I need a particular one?

Usually universal, just be sure that it is a low shank because that is what your machine looks like to me. I looked up your manual online at and here is a little bit of advice. Go there and download a copy to your computer. That way, you will always have a copy when you need it. You can make ruffles by using your machine stitch length, just make it the longest stitch, loosen your top tension, then pull on the bottom thread. Or you can do a basting stitch by hand and pull the thread and distribute evenly, then machine stitch to lock it down. I haven't used a ruffler in years. Try it first and see if you like that idea before you invest in a ruffler. They can be pricey, try ebay for a used one but be sure that it is a low shank . I am also sure that Singer sells them too, 1-800-4singer. Good luck and happy sewing.

Ruffler for Pfaff 7570 Machine

Try contacting a pfaff dealer. If they don't have one in stock they should be able to order one for you. If you're not sure where the nearest pfaff dealer, the pfaff website should have a list of dealers for your area.
