When I turn the receiver on, it stays on for a couple of seconds, then it immediately goes into standby with the power light flashing quickly. It has been working fine for weeks and I removed all the speaker wires and set the whole receiver up on a bare counter with just the power cord attached and the receiver is still having the issue. Please help!

The problem is with one of the Channel power transistors. I have the same problem I am searching to find out how to test them to find out wich one is bad.
sounds like overload protection turn the volume all the way down, then turn it on if that doesn't do it you may have a short in one of the speaker lines - try disconnecting them one at a time

The issue you're experiencing with your Denon receiver AVR-1700 may be due to a few reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try:
Check the connections: Ensure that all cables are securely connected to the receiver and the speakers. Make sure that the input source is selected correctly on the receiver, and the volume is turned up.
Reset the receiver: Sometimes, resetting the receiver can resolve issues with the sound. To reset the Denon AVR-1700, turn off the power, and unplug the power cord for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, plug the power cord back in and turn on the power.
Check the speaker settings: Ensure that the speaker settings are configured correctly on the receiver. Check that the speaker wires are connected properly to the receiver and the speakers. Make sure that the speakers are not damaged or blown.
Check for firmware updates: Make sure that the receiver is running the latest firmware. Visit the Denon website to check if any firmware updates are available for your model.
Check for hardware issues: If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware issue with the receiver. In this case, you may want to contact Denon customer support or take the receiver to a professional repair shop for further assistance.
Hopefully, one of these solutions will help you resolve the issue with your Denon receiver AVR-1700.
if the receiver does not power on from standby there is a problem like bad power supply or even bad macroprocessor. You need to bring it to a service center for diagnosing. 10-years old receiver, maybe better to buy new one.
turns on for a few seconds then immediately goes into standby, attempted to reset by holding in on speaker a and b as instructed with no luck, any other suggestions? A very obvious evidence shows there is a DC coming out of the speaker terminals.
first download service manual. check any DC voltages developed at the speaker output terminals. Differential amps got damaged ,shorted, are common. Check for any shorted transistors of pre-amp stage which amplifies voltage.
Not familiar with this model but seems like the protection circuit is kicking in, this could be caused by an imbalance of Ohms between channels or a short. remove & check all speakers and cables for continuity or shorts, does the unit power on without speakers or in a different mode (surround off).
always add speakers in pairs (L&R) before testing to prevent possible protection circuit, test main speaker pair first then add surrounds (all according to the allowable Ohms range for the amp of course)
Disconnect all speakers at the receiver and turn it back on, if it stays on post a comment and I will help you troubleshoot further. If it still cuts out, it needs to go to service for repair. Hope this helps.
Did you try to reset the unit? Resetting the unit has fixed every problem I have ever had......turn off unit.....hold down A+B at the same time then turn the unit back on...hold buttons for roughly 3 seconds....Let me know if it works.
Turn the unit off by main switch (not a standby button). Press and hold "Speakers-A" and "Speakers-B" buttons and turn on main switch. Display blinks. Release the buttons after 3 seconds. Receiver is reseted.
I had exactly the same problem. On youtube there is a video that advises to replace 2 voltage regulators on a heatsink on the left.
After removing the complete backpanel I was able to mount 2 new regulators 7815 and 7915 (using mica insulation sheets etc). After this I still could not measure the 15 V DC behind the regulator. Thorough inspection of the most left vertical PCB, which has been mounted on the board with the voltage regulators, learned that 4 diodes type 1N4007 and 4 resistors (0.22 ohm, 1W, metalfilm) had been burnt. 2 diodes had shortcircuit in both directions. From a service manual I downloaded for free from the Internet I learned that these 4 diodes do deliver the direct current to the voltage regulators I already replaced. These 4 diodes and 4 resistors can easily be replaced because they can directly be reached. After replacement I started the machine and happily the red light turned green and the machine is perfectly OK. Cost of all parts ca EUR 5,- :-) Part numbers in service manual: D523-D526 and R516-R519. Hope I can help anyone to save this great receiver from the garbage dump.
