Camera will not stay on. Lens is open. Changed batteries, tried connecting USB to computer

I've had this problem just now with my i531. First, I turned it ON, got a quick three flashing green lights and goes OFF instantly, however, the shutter lens stays OPEN and won't close.

I removed the batteries and start turning it ON again but this time it won't turn ON now, no flashing greens whatsoever, the shutter lens still OPEN. Replaced batteries already but it didn't solved it.

My nth try with a pair of freshly purchased 2400maH didn't worked either. I brought it back to the storage box now frustrated!

Look at the lens from all angels and you'll be able to tell that it is jammed. wiggle to set the lens back into position. i heard a snap, turned the camera on and it now works!!

The same thing happend to me just now... you have to wiggle the lens untill it goes into place then it should retract when you turn it on. :]

Occasionally while shooting in auto/portrait my shutter will stay open for 1 second or longer, for no reason

Have you tried to reset the camera and reboot the firmware? I had that problem with a friend's camera and it simply worked.
Other thing is: are you using the original battery or a third party battery? sometimes bad quality batteries are creating such a problems like shutting down the camera, shutter lags...

I hope it helps, if not let me know

get a butter knife or any thin object like that and use it to push out the lens and turning it on at the same time you will hear a clicking noise which is normal once completely out, use your hand with a gentle but firm presure move it form left to right
and then hopefully it should work after that

sounds like the lil motor that is in charge of opening and closeing the shutter might have shorted out causing it to stick, or it could have just simply burnt out or striped the lil gears on the motor. If the shutter moves alil bit i would say you probably have a short in the shutter motor.

Will not turn on

Sounds like your lens is stuck. Try a gentle tug and it should open all the way. Then you can power your camera down.

It dont turn on

I had the same problem. Try to turn it on, 3 beeps and then it would shut down. Screen would come on for that time. Also, the lens was stuck open. It wouldn't close.

I twisted the lens (gently) and it appeared stuck. A gentle screw motioned seemed to free it. I hit the power button and it come on, but this time no 3 beeps and shut down. I then turned it off and this time the lens retracted and closed.

So, it appears that if the lens gets stuck open, it has a shut down feature that doesn't allow the camera to go further into its operation modes. I believe this stuck open problem occured on our camera when the batteries went low.

Again, a second of gentle twisting seemed to unstick it and with fresh batteries in, it was able to operate and shut down properly.

As far as batteries, I use the rechargeable Ni-Cad 2500 mA. They last a while.

Blessings to you!

Lens problem

If you've replaced the batteries with fresh ones, it probably has a broken zoom assembly. It'll have to be replaced by a repair shop.
