I have opened the back of my Hoover tumble dryer and taken out all the fluff...it is overheating all of the time and a friend suggested that the belt might be broken. I unplugged the machine and moved the...

It goes arount the motor pully and the lower side of the belt goes up and over the tension pully. Also on you overheating problem turn your dryer on with no heat and see if air is coming out of the outside vent. It should be a good volume. The next thing to check is the blower housing just follow the exhaust vent and the lint trap they will lead you to the blower wheel housing and duct to the lint trap. Remove the screws around the outside metal casing and seperate the casing exsposing the blower wheel you will find a lot of debris. Make sure the wheel is secure to the center spindle. Then make sure your hose leaving the dryer is not kinked when you push the dryer back and it is clean. Always unplug your dryer before starting on repairs and good luck..These are the most common problems

Will not tumble

The most obvious thing to check is the dryer belt. Unplug the dryer, and remove the back panel. Locate the motor and trace the delt from the motor pully to the drum and all the way around, back to the motor. If the belt is on and tight, the issue is probably with the motor.

Maytag dryer won't rotate after blower wheel replacement

Check the drive belt and belt tensioner. From the way you describe it, the belt is loose and with a load in the drum, it will not rotate due to belt slipping.

Removing motor from blower

You are correct, we just automatically replace the blower wheel, and screw on the new one. You have to chisel the old one off, most of the time, to get it through the hole.

Kenmore dryer help?

Sounds like motor is stalled. Remove the lint filter, look inside down toward the bottom left corner at the blower wheel. Something may be jammed in the blower wheel. If difficult to see, TURN OFF POWER TO MACHINE, remove bottom access panel. 2 to 3 screws on bottom of panel. Remove lint housing (3 to 4 screws) and inspect blower wheel for debris.

Dryer

beckerkim, you have one of two things going here, either your blower wheel has something jammed in it or it's broken or the motor itself is shot. Check the blower wheel first make sure it's ok. You also may want to check the drum rollers to make sure they are not seized up. Catriver...post back.
