Question about IBM ThinkPad T60 Notebook

1 Answer

I press the power button and the computer won't start up past the "To Interrupt Normal Startup" screen. I just tried installing a Skype Webcam, which is right when the problem happened. Though over the past several days, I've also been having problems with the startup. It will go all the way to the desktop, but I won;t be able to open any documents or windows. I click on the icons and nothing would happen. I would have to shutdown the computer by taking the battery out and then try to start it up again, sometimes I would have to do it several times.

Screen is blank when the computer is turned on

The IBM ThinkPad is a brand of laptop computer developed by IBM. In 2005, Lenovo bought out IBM's laptop division. ThinkPads are like most laptops in that their screens are one of their most delicate features. If a screen is exhibiting problems, knowing how to troubleshoot the issue can save you a headful of worries and get you to the source of the problem.

No Video If you are experiencing no video from your display, make sure the laptop is powered on. The ThinkPad has a power status indicator on the body and will be illuminated if the computer is turned on. Once you verify that there is power, check that the laptop is not in sleep mode by holding down the "Fn" key for 10 seconds. If you are not in sleep mode, try to toggle the ThinkPad between external display and internal display mode. You can do this by pressing down the "Fn" button with the "F7" key. b> Verify Working Internal Display If you are not receiving any video when your computer is on, there is still a chance it could be a software issue. Turn off your computer. On the ThinkPad A, G, R, T, X and Z series computers, you can boot up in a basic level of the computers operation called BIOS to verify that the screen works. When you restart the computer, press and hold the button according to your model to turn on BIOS. This will either be "Press F1 for BIOS Setup Utility," "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button," or "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button." You can find out how to access BIOS for your particular ThinkPad model by referring to your owner's manual. Removing the Screen If you have a picture on your screen, but it is faint as a result of lack of light, adjust your brightness settings by holding down the "Fn" key as well as the "Home" button. If you do not get an adjustment in brightness, you may have a faulty backlight or inverter. If it is the backlight of the screen, you may need to change the inverter board. This is a small circuit board that controls the brightness of your LCD. If your computer is under warranty, take it in to Lenovo and have it repaired. If it is not under warranty, you can attempt to take it out yourself by removing the screen. For this job, you will need a screwdriver as well as a knife. Remove the screws around the screen housing and remove the small plastic covers with your knife to get at hidden screws. Use your knife to pry off the front bezel of the screen. The bezel is a plastic piece that frames your LCD. Remove any screws from around the LCD screen to remove it. At this time, you can replace the inverter board, the LCD panel or the LVDS cable--the low-voltage differential signaling cable that that sends graphics from your computer's graphics card to your screen.

My asus u52f-bbl9 doesn't want to move past the boot screen

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.
If all fails Sounds like your operating system needs to be reinstalled or you can do a system recovery to set it back to when you first bought it.

When powering it up it starts to boot I get a blue screen then it goes black where do I start ?

Try starting your mac from it's install disc.
1) First turn off your computer.
2) Then restart it, right when you push the power button to turn it on, press the option key down and hold it
3) pressing the option key will bring to a screen where you can choose your startup disk. Usually, you'll see your Macintosh HD available to startup from. Don't choose anything yet.
4) Insert your install disc into the CD slot.
5) wait a couple of seconds and then clock on your install disc as your startup option.
6) after clicking on the disc, go to the menubar and click on Utilities then disk utility.
7)once the disk utility app is open hit "verify disk permissions"
8) after you've "verified disk permission" hit "repair disk permissions"
- this might take a long time depending how much you've actually done this (which it's good to do every other month or so to keep your mac running smoothly). things might seem to freeze up as well, but it's the mac trying to verify and repair broken permissions on your computer. Don't that's normal.
9) after you have repaired the disk permission, reboot your mac by quitting disk utility and then choosing the startup disk as your normal macintosh HD. That should do the trick. If not, tell us what has changed.

Logitech webcam that doesn't want to work with skype now

I experienced the same symptom (Skype would load with WinXP but NOT recoginize my HP Elite webcam and its ArcSoft drivers). I noticed that I could 'cure' the problem by manually stopping Skype after WinXP loaded (right click on the Skype task and Quit). Then, when Skype has stopped running and Windows is still up, manually restart Skype.

It appeared that the problem was one of task startup order. My system runs McAfee's Secuity Suite and that takes a FULL 2.5 minutes to activate after the initial Windows desktop appears.

So, for grins, I searched for a freeware startup manager (used WinPatrol) and installed it. I assigned the Skype startup task to the delayed column and set the delay to 2.5 minutes so Skype wouldn't try to load before the McAfee firewall was up and running. That cured the problem of Skype starting without seeing a webcam!

I played with the delay and found even WinPatrol's minimum delay (10-30 seconds) also provided relief...
