Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook
Vista Home Premium hangs at the welcome screen after entering the screen name and password. The "circle" progress indicator just keeps going in circles. Have taken the battery out and let it sit and reinstalled battery and had same result. Any ideas? Acer Aspire 5720-4126 Laptop pentium dual-core T2330, 1.6ghz, 522 mhz FSB, 1MB L2 cache,Intel graphic media accelerator X3100, 2GB DDR, 160 GB HDD
have a Dell Inspiron 9400 running windows vista business 32 bit that was hanging on the welcome screen during boot up! I went to dell and put in the ID Tag # for my unit then downloaded the newest WLAN driver and installed it. This has fixed the problem. I did not nor could I have guessed that this was the cause. After reading about it in other forums, all pointed me to the download and it worked.

The problem has to do with your USERINIT.EXE section of the registry. HKLM/sowftwre/microsoft/windowsNT/currentversion/winlogon
Make sure the only thing in it is:
C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe, REMOVE anything else.
the only way to resolve this is by pulling the hard drive to another pc, running the registry editor from the new pc, loading the software hive off of the old hard drive and modifying the key

FIrst thing to do. Reboot the computer and tap f8 to enter safe mode. If you can enter there. Go to start-run -type on msconfig. Then turn off all startup items and apply then close and reboot the computer. If allows you in then something in startup is the problem. A hung program is the possible cause.

I too have a Dell, although mine is a Latitude D520, but using the info from ubidlower, go to dell, put in ID tag# and download new WLAN driver seems to have corrected the issue.

Thanks onsitenj, That fixed my problem that was nagging for last 6 months. I had contacted microsoft and gateway and they were clueless
