The "neutral" wire in home wiring is always the "white" wire. The hot line is always the "black" wire or in the case of a multiple conductor, can be just about any color but white or green. Green is circuit ground, the nasty 3rd pin on the plugs we use, but a very important safety feature.
When you have an "open neutral" reading it means that the "white" wire has come loose some place in your wiring. A broken or loose wire is referred to as an "open" in electrical terms. I assume you are plugging an outlet tester in and get this indication. It may just be in the outlet you are testing or someplace else between the outlet and the circuit breaker.

What is an open neutral outlet how do you fix the problem

Well first of all, if you have to ask that question you should probably find someone else to fix it. An open neutral means that the neutral wire is not connected (the wide spade) somewhere in the circuit between the breaker box and the faulty outlet. It can be tricky to find. If the outlets are wired by pushing the wires into the holes in the outlets, they can develop bad connections. It's better to have them screwed down, but you shouldn't mess with live circuits and finding this problem will require a meter or a lot of luck.

I have p0700 and p0705 codes, p0455, p1125, and p2125 and p2138 codes

The transmission of a vehicle which has suffered a transmission problem will send the P0700 code to the vehicle engine control module (ECM)

P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Possible causes

- Open or short park/neutral position switch circuit
- Poor park/neutral position switch circuit connection
- Misadjusted park/neutral position switch
- Park/neutral position switch may be faulty

P0455. A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

A loose or improperly affixed gas cap

A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)

Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

P1125 Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) System

P2125 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "E" Circuit

P2138 Throttle possition sensor

Oven displays "Supply Open Neutral" What does

I got this problem on my GE Trivection oven after a 2 minute blackout. "Supply Open Neutral" showed up and no other buttons worked. I shut off the breaker to the oven from outside and it still didn't work. I then turned the breaker off of the other appliances in the kitchen and turned the Trivection oven breaker on first and then it worked. I don't know if it was the order or whether I just turned it off for a longer period of time, but the oven started working normal again.

When I plug in the checker for this GFCI that is not working it says there is an OPEN NEUTRAL just what does that mean and how do I fix it. Will a new GFCI . fix it.

It means that the neutral wire is not connected back to the braker box and no current can flow through it... the outlet is then trying to use the ground instead which it is not supossed to do... that is dangerous...

My kz1300 only starts with the clutch in-and the neutral light dont lite up.I checked the neutral lite bulb and its good. anyway to trouble shhot the switches-i hate to just throw parts at it. Thanks,Doug

the nutral switch would be a simple open /closed switch located near the shifter . meaning if it is in neutral the switch should allow power thrugh and if it is not in neutral there should be no continuity.

Oven says: ''supply open neutral'' no buttons work what to do?

That means the range is not connected properly, or the power supply to it is not correct. The range needs the neutral (along with one of the hot leads) to supply the 120 volt portion of the voltage required to operate the control. On built in ovens, the red and black are connected to the two hot supply wires, the white to neutral, and the green or bare copper wire to ground. If your supply only has three incomming wires (older homes) then the green (or bare copper wire) and white are both connected to the neutral.

What does open neutral on my gb circuit tester also hot/ground reversed mean

An open neutral means that neutral, or common wire is not connected somewhere. If for example you test a outlet in a room, and the tester shows that you have an open neutral, Then somewhere along the circuit the neutral is not connected properly. In rooms most outlets are connected in series to each other, so if you have an open neutral in one outlet, it can affect all the other outlets too.

Hot/ground reversed means that the hot wire and the common wire are installed in the wrong order.on the outlet, you have a hot side (black wire)and a common side(white wire)and the hot wire is installed on the common side instead of the hot side and the common is installed on the hot side. This show up on the tester this way because the common and ground tie into the same bar in the panel.

Fix the open neutral first as this can show incorrect reading on the tester on all outlets after the open neutral.

Elements not working, have power on both legs of 220. Have replace the elements. Lights and fans work. No heat.

i think you maen that you are seeing 220v on both terminals of the element and this would mean straight away that the element is ok
the problem is that neutral is not present
take care doing this.
remove wires from both sides of element. check which wire is live and the other should be neutral. trace the neutral wire and see if you can find a break or disconnection. one possibility is that neutral is routed via an overheat stat and this has gone open circuit
