Question about GE JVM1540DM Microwave Oven

Open Question

My GE JVM1540DM2BB microwave has completely quit working. It turned on and started cooking then shut completely down in the middle of it. We have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, we have checked our main fuse box to the house and it's not a main fuse or the outlet it's plugged into. It will not turn on at all- nothing, it's as if it were completely unplugged even when it's on.

SOURCE: GE Spacemaker XL1800 (JVM1860WD 002) Stoped Working.

The control panel has built-in surge protection, and the high voltage probably tripped that. It will have to be repaired, which we do nationwide for only $39.95 postpaid. By rights, I would say the electrician should be the one to see to the repairs, including removing the control panel assembly to send in for repair. We have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 Please let us know if you have any other questions.

SOURCE: I have a GE Profile spacemaker 2.0 microwave and

Hello. You have isolated the problem.

Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it.

SOURCE: The keypad buttons do not work

> model JVM1640WJ03

The keypad is part number WB27X10721 MEMBRANE KEY PANEL available for $37.09 here (it's $61.50 from GE!).

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

First of all, you should check the end of the keypad strip for rough white, gray, or green deposits that can sometime interfere with conductivity.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below and use a soft pencil eraser to gently clean both sides of the end, then reinsert it and try it again.

If that doesn't fix it, and you don't notice any rough white, gray, or green deposits on the circuit board (moisture or mineral deposits) or grease, then your keypad is bad.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I have a GE Advantium microwave model 2001 scb2001 03. It stopped working in the middle of a cooking and power goes completely out. A few days before that there was metal odor when using microwave

Betty, it sounds like you might have 2 problems and the power shutting off could be an end result of the metal odor you described. The power shutting off, more than likely is just a blown fuse. That is usually a simple and in-expensive repair. The metal odor could come from either your magnetron or from the high voltage transformer. Either one of those is going to be a rather expensive repair and if repair part stores in your area are anything like in my town, unless you repair them for a living or know someone who does, you can have some difficulty in getting those parts. Sorry for the bad news, but it might be simpler to just replace the microwave.

Ge pvm2070smss shuts down

It may be a noisy magnetron if the failure occurs in a second or two of hitting "Start" to begin cooking.

See this FixYa solution. even though your model number is different.

Otherwise, if the internal cooling fan is not running when you are cooking, it will shut down after 30-60 seconds or so and stay off until it cools back down.

GE Over range microwave model JVM1443LK01 This started a couple days ago. After removeing something from the microwave and we shut the door, the fan started up. The fan will run as long as the door is...

I would check the door switches for a faulty switch. If it were condensation on the control panel. I would think it would have dried out by now unless it has damaged the control board.

GE Profile turned off as soon as it start

If you can program it and the problem occures when you push START. Then the problem is a door switch, or the control panel not having a completed circuit. Think of your control panel as an off-on switch.COOK, the control panel switches on for 100% of the time programed. DEFROST,The control panel turns the Cook-Relay on for 30% and off for 70%, on, off, on, off,for the time you programmed for DEFROST. This is how it works. There is no lowering of the output. The output is 100% anything other than COOk is done in % of time on, % of time off. This is why you can hear a "Bump" when Defrosting. The "Bump" is the Cook-Relay sending power to the High Voltage Side, 30% on, 70% off.
