Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop

Dell Dimension 5150 probably software conflict

Hi,
My 5150 stopped working at start up. Thought it was PS or Mobo issue. Both are fine so it seems to be a software conflict of some type. I can get into safe mode but cant do much of course! I used system restore to the earliest date listed with no results. Called dell support and was told that the know what to do but since I am out of warranty by a couple of months it would cost me 200.00 for a year of support just to fix this issue.

Anybody have an idea of what dell would have told me?

You will need to get hold of a full copy of XP off of a friend, as the copy that prob came with your pc will judt format your pc and start again. Dont worry about codes as your should find one at the side of your pc. you just need to make sure you get the right copy i.e. xp home or Pro.

When you have the disk put it into the pc then reboot, your PC should be set up to boot from CD if it is you will be asked to press any key to boot from CD, if not then let me know. you will now get a nice blue install screen up and a few options just carry on (dont select the console recovery as you theres an easyer way). now your PC will start looking for copys of XP installed on your pc, this is where your want to select restore XP (r button).

this will now copy over your old copy of XP but this will mean that you will not loss any programs or files.

Please be careful if your get up the options to format your PC then you will loss every thing. just reboot and do it all again. :)

Dell 5150 won't load drivers


Hi try going to control panel, system, hard ware and then device manager. If you have any driver issues, your device will be highlighted by a yellow ? With your driver CD in drive, click the + sign and right click the device with the problem, select update driver, follow instructions and select install driver from disk. Hope this helps

Dell dimension 5150. wont start


Most times when you have flashing yellow light there is issue ether with cpu or motherboard. Just to be safe test the power supply and if ok then try to replace cpu and go from there. If power supply issue just replace it. Might be easier to take it to pc repair store. Good Luck

Dell Dimension 5150 will not start!


This is related to Hardware.

There might be a lose Ram of data cable connection on Motherboard.

This type of issue is also seen when the there is dust accumulation on Process Fan and CPU fan resulting in over heating.

This might also be due to malfunction of a motherboard.

The third reason could be that SMPS his not working.

Dell Dimension 5150 CD door closes quickly.


If an application is attempting to access the CD drive, the door will close. Put the CD in first and then launch the application.

Also possible a problem with the eject/load mechnism in the CD drive.

Dell dimension 5150 boot up difficulties - just goes to the Dell screen and then nothing - a little blinking white dash in the upper left corner. I usually hit f12 to boot from there, but it seems that...


try to run diags, press f12 when booting the choose utility partiton. check for any error on your HDD but it seems like its an OS issue so all you need to do is to uninstall and reinstall your OS

Flashing Orange light, computer wont boot

I had the same issue with my Dell Dimension 5150 and I replaced the front I/O USB Audio Panel and it booted right up.

Start up fault


I'm not an expert at this!!
I looked up Dell Tech Faults on another pc.
Disconnect power and press on button to discharge pc. Remove side panel. Remove all USB port cables including hubs. Remove memory from the CRIMMS. Reconnect memory. Reconnect usb's. Replace panel and power cord. You can always connect to Delle Tech Support - doesn't cost.

For some reason only known to anoraks or rocket scientists--- this works and pc is restored to former glory.

PNY memory


Hi

Dell Dimension 5150 supports DDR2 400MHz (PC2-3200) and DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4300) unbuffered SDRAM Memory (DIMM). You may install a total of four DIMMs in capacities of 256MB, 512MB, or 1GB. The maximum memory supported is 4GB.

From your query, I think the obvious question is; What is specification of the PNY DIMM and/or does the PNY DIMM meet the requirements for Dimension 5150?

The Chipset used on Dimension 5150 is Intel 945G Express. I am not aware of specific compatibility issues regarding the Intel 945G and PNY Memory modules. However, there may really be known issues that I am not aware of.

To proceed, ensure that the PNY Memory is compatible with Dimension 5150. If not, install compatible (memory type, speed, capacity) DIMMs.
