Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

2 Answers

Can you please tell me where the Cmos battery is located and if there are any special techniques that need to be employed to successfully remove and replace it? It is (was) a DV6000 series laptop with a dual core 64 AMD Turion processor. This PC has already been subect to a recall because of a defective motherboard, so it is not the original. I received no information from HP about the repairs that were performed. After I got the computer back it performed flawlessly for about one year then stopped working. Thanking you in advance for any help you may be able to provide. Wayne

How do I remove the battery from my Gateway 5072, do I need a special tool

You shouldn't need a special tool to remove the CMOS battery.
Remember to unplug the computer from the wall before you go poking around inside the computer.
The battery should be located directly on the motherboard and should be easily removable with your fingers.

Please i want to remove the Bios password of my laptop LG X note T380, How can I do ? Is there any password removal program special for my laptop? THANK YOU VERY MUCH

To clear your CMOS memory, just shut down your PC, locate the CMOS battery on your motherboard and remove it for about 5 minutes before inserting it back in. Now when you boot up your computer, the BIOS should have been resetted with all values and passwords set to default. If you can't locate your CMOS battery, refer to your motherboard manual.
You can also use software like KillCMOS to reset your CMOS settings directly.

Hope this works!

Trying to enter BIOS on Gateway 7330GZ and it is requesting a password on a old dos type screen

To reset the bios you must clear the CMOS

There are two ways to approach forcing the Bios/CMOS to be reset to its default values: Option #1: Mechanically, by removing all power to the Bios/CMOS thereby forcing it to reset itself to its stored defaults, which include no password or the default password employed by the Bios manufacturer, and Option #2: Using a program to either locate and identify the password and reveal it to you or erasing the password entirely. These are referred to as password by-pass utilities or cracks.

Let's look at Option #1
By either resetting a jumper on the motherboard itself (referred to as a "clear CMOS" jumper), or by physically remove the power from the computer (disconnecting the power plug) and then removing a battery (used to maintain power to the PROM chip that contains the Bios/CMOS information) from the motherboard.

If the "Clear CMOS" jumpers are not present or not available:
Shut down the computer and disconnect the power plug. Locate, if possible, the instruction booklet for your motherboard. Now identify where the battery is located on the motherboard. It will be approximately 1/2 inch in diameter.Leave the battery our of the computer for about 20 to 30 minutes and then return it to its socket. Now plug the power cord back in and restart the computer.

Where is the location of CMOS battery on motherboard? I have a 5.5 yr old tablet that's having symptoms of a bad battery. I'd like to change it myself and get an idea of how much it costs to purchase.

You'll have to open up the laptop and get free access to the motherboard. Usually CMOS batteries on laptops are soldered onto the motherboard so you'll need to have some soldering skills to do this.
About the price, usually it's in the $10 range, but the best way to go is to get the original battery and visit the local wrist watch store or a specialized batteries store and ask for a replacement.

Hi mayatimikata.

If you are referring to the BIOS password, then let me tell you the easiest trick to reset the BIOS password.

The BIOS password, Computer date and time and many more settings will always be saved in the CMOS Battery.

Hence, here is the trick.

You may just remove and re-insert the CMOS Battery.

This will reset all the information or settings in the CMOS Battery.

The BIOS password will also be erased by doing this.

You need not worry, this will not harm your Computer in any ways.

Please perform the steps which I have mentioned above.

This should reset the BIOS password.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to ask further questions.

You will need to reset the bios, which is not easy on a laptop. It is easiest to remove the CMOS battery from the board and repalce it, Without taking the laptop apart and removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard,, you can try these techniques, but they are technical. visit the following websites to learn...

P5RD1-V BOOT PROBLEM

The CMOS, which stands for complementary metal-oxide semiconductor, is the hardware component of a computer that supports the BIOS, or basic input output system. The two terms are often used interchangeably, and the two technologies work together to perform the same basic function. They maintain the low-level settings on a computer, letting the computer know, even before the computer's operating system starts, what kinds of hardware the computer has available, such as hard drives and video display adapters. A special battery located on the computer's motherboard powers the CMOS. To reset the CMOS on a Dell computer, briefly remove and then replace the battery
  1. Turn off the computer. Disconnect all cables and detach all devices, including USB devices, from the computer. Press and hold the computer's power button for 10 seconds after it has been unplugged. This grounds the system board.
  2. Step 2 Remove the computer cover. All Dell systems have a cover panel on the chassis that you can remove so that you can access the system's motherboard and internal components. For some Dell computer lines, such as OptiPlex, the computer cover is held in place by a release latch located on the back of the computer. Pull the latch to release the cover and then slide the over up and away. Other lines, such as Dimension, have large, slotted thumbscrews. Turn the screws counter-clockwise until they disengage from the chassis, the slide the cover off the computer. Dell computers often ship with the computer's user guide in CD form or with the guide pre-loaded on the system's hard drive. You can locate the instructions for removing the cover from your particular system in the user guide.
  3. Step 3 Locate the CMOS battery on the system's motherboard. CMOS batteries range in size from size and thickness from about the size of a nickel to about the size of a quarter. The CMOS battery will generally be labeled CMOS on the motherboard and will be the only battery openly exposed on the motherboard.
  4. Step 4 Remove the CMOS battery by prying it gently up out of its socket. The sockets are specifically designed to allow the battery to be replaced.
  5. Step 5 Wait 30 seconds, and then replace the battery in its socket. This will reset the CMOS. Replace the computer cover to complete the process.
