Question about Craftsman Air Tools & Compressors

Pressure builds up and shuts off normally but air leaks out of pressure switch which is new.... please help do i need some kind of check valve?

Check valve is a brass or steel fitting threaded into tank and is where discharge tubing from compressor connects. Remove tubing and spray soapy water on valve. If it leaks you can remove and try to clean debris from seat. Replace as necessary. You can use generic valve from www.grainger.com, just watch thread sizes. Good luck

Electricity...Compressors will run best with full 115Vot 15AMP/Or 220V electrical supply from a circuit, over the shortest electrical cord as possible.


Air Leaks..Place your ear close to the compressor and listen for air leaking, if you hear air that is not normal and means you have to locate and repair whatever it is that is leaking.
Check the air unloader valve... The air unloader valve will blown out air when you turned off the compressor, that is normal.
But it should not have air leaking out of it all of the time. If so then it is faulty and in need of repair/replacement.


Valves...If either the intake or exaust valves fail, breaks, or fails to seat, then your compressor will run 24 hours a day and never build up to the correct pressure for shut-off.


Gaskets...Check to see if your gaskets have failed.
You could have a gasket failure between the pistons and you will never know it because it shows no external air leak.
If this situation happens then the air will only cycle between cylinders and never build up the correct air pressure.
One way to check the gasket is remove the air filter, then put your hand over the intake.

I have an older i/r type 30 model 234 d4 that wont build air over 30 psi? The motor is a 1.5 hp and is wired correctly and theirs no water in the tank!!! Help!!

I have a porter cable compressor, but the pump won't shut off, and the pressure won't build it

Compressor reaches upper pressure limit of 120 psi but does not shut down or increase in pressure. When manually shut off at near 120 psi it will hold pressure for extended time.

My air compressor with fill up to about 40 psi and then it just shuts itself off

Sounds like you have a pressure switch problem, it may have gotten out of calibration.
Check to see if your compressor has an adjustable pressure switch. If it does then adjust the screw/nut down (clockwise) to increase your shut off pressure...just go slowly on the adjustment.
