MY EMERSON MS9700 READS NO READY WHEN I TRY TO PLAY A CD.. IT TURNS THE CD MAKES THE SQUEAKING NOISE LIKE ITS READING IT BUT THEN NOTHING HAPPENS OTHER THAN THE NO RDY MESSAGE.. HOW CAN I FIX THIS???

The DVD laser pickup is at the end of life, replacement of assembly the only option, cheaper to replace the combo unit.

Buy one universal remote control, which have setup codes for your device. Brand name isn't a matter.

If the indication says" not ready " it means that the disc is not reading the data present on it . It is possible that the disc is not scanned by the optical head to be ready to play.
So it is possible that the optical head is defective or weak, please try to clean the optical eye with ear bud very softly or use a disc cleaner.
If there is no result the head can be faulty.
If the set was not used for long time please keep it powered ON.
Also the processing section/main board can be a suspect.

its not reading the cds because the lense is either damaged or in need of a cleaning

one thing that you can do and this helped me when i had that same problem is to take off the top cover and clean the laser lens

You have to unscrew the whole thing and take the whole metal covering off and then the inner tray will be displayed and then you can just take the CDs out and then screw the cover back on. Happened to me, and that worked :]
