Question about Makita Drills

1 Answer

I have a Makita HR2450 hammer drill with an SDS chuck. It no longer holds the bits tightly and I can now push them in and pull them out without needing to use the release mechanism. How do I remove the chuck so I can replace or repair same?

Go to Makitatools.com and type in your model number for a breakdown. What I would do is first remove the dust shield and under that you will find a retaining ring, remove it without spreading it too much, then remove the collar and under that you will find a washer and another retaining washer, push down and remove the steel ball. clean the area, it could be full of dirt and not locking properly. Let me know if you need more assistance

My makita SDS rotary hammer drill leaves the bit in the hole while drilling. It is like it doesn't hold the bit anymore. What could be the problem and how do I disassemble the Chuck?

if you are using a normal 3 jaw chuck on the drill , that is normal when hammering
the vibrations loosen of the chuck
a method to stop it is to ensure the chuck is tight and keep pulling the drill out of the hole to remove the grit that jams the bit

Drillbit stuck

Can not see what model you have. Is it a keyless chuck or an SDS chuck? With a keyless chuck hold the machine in a vice by the drill bit. now tap the chuck with a hammer or pin punch & hammer. DONOT hit the chuck on the jaws gut on the rim around them. I have had success using this method. If it is an SDS type chuck pull the chuck cap up as far as possible along the bit them if there are any ring springs you will have to try remove them then slide the sleeve up the bit, now you should be able to remove any steel balls. If the bit does not come out now hold bit in vice as before and tap on tool holder.

Sds bit snapped in my makita bhr200 chuck.on taking the drill apart, the chuck is on a gear rod,and wont allow me to push the chuck down

You have to remove the striker bolt from inside the spindle first. to do this remove the internal circlip (not always easy) then you can tap the striker bolt out and then press the broken bit out.

How do I remove the sds chuck to fit the standaed chuck

The SDS chuck is an intergral part ot the rotary hammer drill assembly. You can get a standard chuck that has an SDS fitting on it and that will fit into your drill and give you standard drilling capabilities.

On makita hammer drill, bits fall out of chuck. How can I fix it?

This is an SDS chuck and uses ball in tapered slots to hold the bit - if the inside of the chuck is dirty (dust+grease) it will not operate correctly. Use a cleaning degreaser spray and wash the inside out whilst moving the chuck outer body up and down. Try your SDS bits in it and if it works okay - spray some WD40 in it and then keep clean and re lubricate it regularly after use - hope this helps

How do i fasten the the drilling bit in the machine ?

For the pictured drill motor, you put the bit in and use a "chuck key" to tighten the chuck onto the bit...

If the photo is not your machine but you have an SDS type chuck, you insert the bit, pull back on a collar and twist the bit until you feel it engage and release the collar. When seated properly you cannot pull the bit out without pulling back on the collar.

I have a Makita HP1621f Drill, and I cannot get the drill bit out, seems like the chuck itself is bad,any ideas on how to remove the drill bit?

Sometimes if you happen to have the right size bit, it will stick into the bolt that holds the chuck on if the chuck wasn't tight enought to keep it from slipping further into the chuck. Clamp drill bit in vice and tap chuck with soft hammer to pull it free.

How do I fit drill in this machine please? DEWALT D25113K D25113 3 MODE SDS

Youcan only use standard drill bits with the use of a chuck attachment with the SDS type bayonet. These hammer drills use an SDS type drill bit which just pushes into the fitted chuck and are released by pulling back on the lock mechanism on the chuck.

Drive systems Question

SDS (or Slotted Drive System) bits for hammer drills/rotary hammers allow the bit to slide in the chuck and enhance the hammering action of the tool. For most applications, these bits provide plenty of torque. SDS Max bits are similar to SDS bits, but have larger shanks and come in larger sizes than SDS bits. These powerful bits are useful in industrial applications.
