Question about NetGear DG834G Router
Base from the description of your problem and since your already convince that this is not a problem with your computer,. the row possible problem here is the router or the modem where the router is connected.
To check if this is a router problem connect the computer directly to your modem and check if the problem is there or not, because if the problem is still there so the problem is with your modem or worse the problem is with your Internet Provider so you can contact them about that.
After you done connecting computer to modem and problem is not there , router is the problem here it can be the firmware if the router is corrupted so you can update of flash the firmware of the router or better yet reset the router by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds while power is ON and the reconfigure it back
