Question about NetGear DG834G Router

1 Answer

Some web pages just appear as as a lot of meaningless characters, I tried the same site on my laptop at work and they were fine so I'm convinced it's the router

It is a modem router all in one box, I've flashed latest rev firmware, reset many times still no joy.

  • paul_farmer Sep 12, 2010

Thanks Guru, it's not all web sites just a few, so I don't think it's an ISP/line problem.

There are 2, my personal desktop Dell Dimension 4800 and work laptop HP Elite, both hard wired to modem/router. Both running Win XP and IE, Dell PC also Firefox, laptop uses Trend AV, PC uses Norton, I've tried disabling Norton - no change, I can't disable Trend on the laptop as I don't have admin rights. Both IE and Firefox exhibit the same conditions when connected to my modem/router, on the network at work IE on the laptop is fine.I've been through the settings on the modem/router many times and, from what I've read on several discussion forums it all appears to be correct.

I've tried so many different things, clearing caches, cookies etc, I've been trying to resolve this for a week or so and have been going around in circles. Changed browser settings to the extent my PC is totally exposed to the web (I think), it looks like this -

Base from the description of your problem and since your already convince that this is not a problem with your computer,. the row possible problem here is the router or the modem where the router is connected.

To check if this is a router problem connect the computer directly to your modem and check if the problem is there or not, because if the problem is still there so the problem is with your modem or worse the problem is with your Internet Provider so you can contact them about that.

After you done connecting computer to modem and problem is not there , router is the problem here it can be the firmware if the router is corrupted so you can update of flash the firmware of the router or better yet reset the router by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds while power is ON and the reconfigure it back

Ok thank you for the update, since its a modem/router and you already reset and flash the firmware on it and again your computer is working fine on different location so better check this out from your Internet provider something may be wrong on your line.

Ok thank you , may I know what web site is that? and also try doing a scan on your computer using a Anti malware software that you can use for free this is a good additional security that you can use, because sometimes this type of problem is cause by some malware. You can download Malwarebytes from and run a full scan on your computer.

How do I remove 502 Bad Gateway from my computer

Generally, a 502 error is not something you can fix. It means that one or more of the servers that fulfill your request for a web page aren't sending back what's expected. (It's quite typical for a web site to grab data from other places to render the page you are looking at. The main text usually comes from the site you are looking at, but a lot of the times, the pictures, video, comments section, etc., might be hosted on another machine altogether. The ads placed on web pages typically come from outside servers.)

If this is the only web site on which you are getting a 502 error, it probably is the site. However, I was able to go to (using FIrefox 19.0.2 and Chrome Version 25.0.1364.172 m) with no issues, which makes me wonder. If you are getting the error when visiting a lot of sites, it's probably time to do some more digging on your end. Have you tried power cycling the router that serves the Internet at your place? It's possible that the site has moved to a new server and the router has some of the old web site IPs in it's routing table. That is, it might not be your laptop, but in the router or further upstream toward the web site.

I cant login facebook and cant appear the web page of facebook

When you enter the URL:; and there is no web page appearing, the following could be the problem;
1. Maybe the you are missing out something in the URL you are entering (missing some character) or there is some case problem (all the letters should be in lower case).
2. Maybe the internet access connection is limited or very low. Please check that your reception is good enough.
3. Your PC could be blocked from accessing that site. Find out! You can also check with your internet administrator - if you are just unauthorised to access the site then try another system network.

Is Dreamweaver MX 2004 bilingual? I want to write my website text in both English and Welsh often on the same page, I am unable to find the accents/symbols needed for Welsh words. ie the Welsh for "Dogs"...

Dreamweaver is just software to build a web page/site. If you want your web page/site to show Welsh characters, you have to code the characters. A list of HTML codes for different characters can be found here: Using the Split or Code views, you can type in the HTML code for any character and it will display the character on a web page.
Hope this helps!

Di524 secure connection

You just need to access the router setup page and when you're already on the router setup page, just look for MTU and set it to manual and set the size to 1400 don't forget to save the settings after changing that and try again to access the banking web site and that should be working fine already.....
